Title: GAS issue: Please cure me!!
Post by: hunter on September 07, 2008, 06:07:36 PM

Please give me reasons NOT to buy this Reverend Volcano

http://www.reverendguitars.com/reverend/guitars/set_neck_series/volcano.html

I LOVE the looks SO MUCH, and it seems to play and sound rather well too...

Please give me reasons to not do it.

You can't sit down and play it very well.

... umm, can't think of anything else.

It's korina, it looks cool, it has a set neck and a nifty Firebird raised bit in the middle.  It even has locking tuners.  :)

There are only two reasons not to buy it:

1. The headstock shape doesn't really suit the body.

2. The Ron Asheton Signature (http://www.reverendguitars.com/reverend/guitars/set_neck_series/ron_asheton.html) is possibly even cooler.

I think even the headstock rocks much harder than Gibsons actually ...

The Ron Asheton I have seen, but three BKPs 90s style makes it a very expensive toy ...

I'd rathe get the humbucker version and put a MQ in the neck.

Would you be able to play anything on this guitar that you couldn't play on those you already have?

Reviews on Harmony central suggest its a nice instrument.  Only thing they said that a bit odd is the tuners have two holes. They suggest this does not work great, however they can be used using just one hole in a tradional fashion.
Heres the link:-

I should stop looking they even do  a left handed model and geting ideas  tends to work out costly on my wallet.

I don't think a traditional V shaped headstock would work, but maybe something similar to a Schecter Avenger would (pretty irrelevant, since Reverend aren't about to change it....  ):

The output jack is in a strange place, it would be awkward to put your cable through your strap and into the jack for live playing...

That's all I've got.

I'd love a PRS SC, grab one!

Or maybe something completely different like a Suhr or Vigier?

I would LOVE a Vigier Shawn Lane...

Not a bad idea.  But you might have to make some tough decisions to sell some other stuff, unless you have a whole lot of Euros burning a hole in your pocket!  :)

3 P90s (if you buy 2 as a calibrated set) will cost £200, a covered humbucker and an MQ will cost £194, hardly a big difference, and they may even do you a deal on a callibrated set of 3.

Roo

Are you really sure about that Roo?

She's bought a Strat and an Explorer (although the second one was technically "our" money rather than hers), but she's grown awfully found of, er, "another design" and the next one might be one of those...

I'd hate to be responsible for your missus banging on about telecasters every day over the old toast and marmalade in the morning

I just got a artist pack one in that colour and it is great. I might change the pups though not decided which ones yet something from the vintage hot range probs, and put the pups from this into the my SE single cut.

Hmm. I'm normally not much of a fan of flying V's. But I like this rather a lot - its over the top in a very '50s Cadillac kind of way. I even like the headstock! If I wasn't eying up another Tokai right now I would probably be living on beans on toast for the rest of the month after getting one... Might I be ill with something?

At the risk of stating the obvious, don't you know that baked beans are a major cause of GAS?

LOL. I walked right into that one.
