Title: Ibanez RG 550 or FGM 100?
Post by: Matt77 on September 12, 2008, 06:54:29 PM
hmmm..... I can't decide
Work dictates I need a guitar with a trem, as this is all that's missing from my current stash.
(Well actually it's my own personal greed but if it's my girlfriend asking, it's work........ definitely work related.)
I want an old early 90's Ibanez and I've decided I want an RG550 or The Frank Gambale 100 Model.
If I get the FGM 100 it has to be desert yellow. If it's a 550 I don't care on colour.

Can anyone estimate how much cash I need and the best places apart from e-bay to pick one up?

I will of course be BKPing it up

£300ish for the RG550 will be what you'll need...

The FGM is awesome - I'd go for that. I expect they'd cost more than a 550.

FGMs will cost a lot, they're pretty rare.

The FGM has smaller frets than the 550 and also there's only 22 of them if those make a difference to you.  You can find a nice 550 cheaper and easier than an FGM but if you can find one and are willing to pay you won't be dissapointed.

Thanks for the pointers, I've looked in to things in lots of detail now and I've set some very specific parameters for a plan I have.
I've dropped the FGM idea as it's basically a 540 with smaller frets and I would prefer the larger jumbo frets.

I'm on the hunt for some of the following:

1987-1992 RG 550
1987-1992 RG 560
1987-1992 RG 540S

If you know of anyone selling them please let me know.
Even if it's sometime in the future
