... for my custom stratocaster from warmoth. alder body, maple neck.
im thinking about going for a holy diver in this HSS strat with the irish tours. the thick tone ive read about on here sounds just perfect. i dont have a hi-gain amp (Laney VC30), so im relying on the pickups and some pedals to really be able to drive me into that van halen-esque ballpark. does anyone on here have any experience with the Holy diver in an alder/maple strat?
Cheers :)

also, whats the difference between the current HD's and the old (ceramic i think) versions? (and if they're still made)
-
Can't really offer any suggestions, but I'm putting together a couple of Strats with Warmoth (swamp ash) bodies and maple necks, and I'm certainly considering the HD/IT HSS set. Also the VHII. I haven't owned either of those humbuckers, but they've always sounded to me like they'd be particularly well suited to Strats.
I think Antag may have a HD in a Strat, he certainly has one in an alder Jackson RR type.
I believe the old HD was indeed ceramic, with a slightly lower DC resistance, but not sure about the tonal differences. It is still available as a special order, Crazy Joe has (or had?) a set in his Ibanez not so long ago.

I have a HD and had a VC30. VC30 on 10 with the holydiver sounded fattttttt. Great pickup

Holy diver sounds awesome in my american strat. (i think its ash and deffo maple). im thinking of getting another one for the neck position, but ive been umming and ahhing about what pickups to buy next for ages... lol. Too much choice!! P

the diver is on of the most awesome pickups I ever played
you can also install some kind of treble bleed circuit, so you can tame it down using the volume knob without losing the high end

I have one, in an alder tele, and had it in a strat. If you want fatness and the BEST clean tone ever you need this pickup.

Holy Diver will pwn in that guitar.

Um... enlighten me TO
"pwn"?
I'm probably gonna feel like an idiot when I find out what it means :D

I'm not totally up on youth-speak, but I think it started out as "own" or "owned" - in the sense of:
"I owned you there" = "I beat you", "I gave you a jolly good thrashing"
Now, "pwn" is a very common typo of "own". Hence "pwned".

That is Philly right enough, down with the kids.

Oh yes, I'm totally at ease with the younglings. Like crazy like wow, daddy-o.
