Title: Half way through building a 2x12 need help!
Post by: Catalyst77 on September 19, 2008, 08:12:52 PM

Ive put the box together, cut the baffle + back panle to size and got myself some tasty green tolex and a couple of celestion lead 80's but ive got a fe (well lots actually) hazy areas before the finish line, can anyone help?

Does anyone know Where i can get the rear jack plates from?  I can only find the circular ones on ebay but thats going to be a pain in the backside when it comes to fitting the tolex.

Do i just screw the speakers into the baffle? i.e. is there no intermediate surface etc and what screws should i use?

I'm going to rear load the speakers so i'll need to build a frame to stretch the grill cloth over to attach to the front, but i also want to use piping.  Would i need to attach the piping to the inside of the box - and would this be after ive attached the grill cloth (i understand this might be a stupid question!) - i.e. making it impossible to remove after?

Finally should I be glueing and stapling the tolex to the plywood; ive got some Bostik Fast Tak heavy duty multi purpose spray adhesive but do i need to use anything more specilist?

Many thanks in advance

Ben

you hammer some M5 T-nuts into the baffle board and use the appropriate bolt to fix the speaker to the baffle.

I built a clone of a Cornford 2x12 and used a round rear jack plate. No problem with the tolex, just put a hole in the centre and carefully  slit back in a four way pattern, fold back and glue down.

If you want a square rear panel try:

Try Adam Hall http://www.adamhall.com/

or Maplin...Part no L25AA
