Title: anyone tried a Höfner Shorty yet?
Post by: hunter on September 20, 2008, 02:11:14 PM

I mean, I LOVE this design, fullscale and all ... fits in any suitcase ... anyone played one?

Holy Mother Mary! This is one the ugliest thing I've ever seen!

A guy at my college has one, I've not played it but it is one ugly guitar.

I must admit, when someone posted about one the other day, I started having little twinges :D

It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but that's not what it's for in my mind. It could even be the guitar I put a warpig in!!

However, as my wife will point out to you - she can't ever get me to go anywhere that requires packing a suitcase anyway... so what was that well reasoned argument for buying one again?

haven't tried it... if you did travel a lot, assuming it wasn't terrible, something like that would be very cool...

There was a guy in guitarist who wrote in about it quite a while ago. Said he liked it, but thought it was uncomfortable to play, so he made a polystyrene shell to go round it to make it more comfortable.

Looks a bit like a baby Gibson Corvus.  A Corvus cub.

I quite like it.  But I'd ditch the top control and just have the one by the bridge as the volume control (can't ever leave anything stock!).

I suspect not, but that's what the missus's suitcase is for!

Yes, just got home from Spain about an hour ago and have played mine every day.  I paid about £60 off ebay and it was a bargain.  It plays okay considering the price, fits in your case and at means you have an electric guitar to practice with.  I love acoustics and have usually travelled with a Martin Backpacker but I do like to practise electric when I'm away hence the shorty.  Sounds okay plugged in but to me it's just a practise tool really so I wouldn't use it live.  And you definitely need to play it with a strap or it will just slip away from you.

Yes it's an ugly guitar.....
