There's a really nice Orville les paul in Coda that i have to have!
Laney VH100R, Laney AOR Pro-Tube 30 watt combo, Tokai Explorer (Made in Japan with Painkiller set).
Come onnn.
-
Not a bad price either if you can knock them down a few quid....
-
I'll buy your engl.... for a penny
-
I have an Engl? :?
-
It's not an Orville BY GIBSON, is it?
Could be photo flame.
-
That would be lame, there's not much info on it just says it's from the mid 90's. I want to go try it and ask questions but there's no point if i don't have the money to buy it because it will most likely be gone by the time i sell something.
-
I thought the ObG's had stopped production by then, in favour of epipone Japan?
-
ObG were being produced up until 94/95, I think, and Orville were going until '98.
-

I thought you had a fireball or a screamer, I must be thinking of someone else
-
It looks like a photoflame Orville to me - would be around 95/96 - you see quite a few on Evil Bay

-
I'd really like your Laney, but just haven't got the spare cash at the moment :(

I'm sure I sound like a novice and am going to get shot down in flames but what is the difference between an Orville and an Orville by Gibson?

Not sure if that's necessarily 100% accurate, Japanese guitar history seems to be somewhat shrouded in mystery, but it gives the gist of the story. Basically ObG is regarded as more desirable than Orville.
-
I'm not 100% sure but I think Orville by Gibson is MIJ but Orville is MIK but finished/set-up in Japan.
EDIT: I just read the Japan Guitars site and I'm sure it's a lot more accurate than I am, so ignore what I said :P
-
This Orville seems highly overpriced if it's just an Orville and not an ObG.

Yeah, I've read some discussions about this on other forums - I think the theory that the "K" serial number Orvilles were MIK has been debunked quite recently, and the Japan Guitars guy has updated his site to reflect that.

It does seem a bit overpriced. But I sold my '93 ObG for around the same price as that on eBay, so I'd expect the "shop" price for an Orville to be inflated.

Sounds right to me, I have an Ibanez bass that is stamped "K" in the neck pocket and I thought it was made in Korea but the folks at the Ibanez forum assured me it's a made in Japan model, possibly the same factory as the Orvilles.
Incidentally it's one of those MDF, err, I mean Resoncast models they made for a while
-
ObGs are generally in shorter supply and the prices have been rising recently - friend got an Orville Gold Top from Japanguitars (he sticks stuff on Evil Bay every so often) for £300 but I have not seen one that low for ages. It is a nice LP too and good value for what he paid for it.

That looks damn nice, but i like to try guitars before i buy them nowadays. I've had some bad experiences with ebay buys before, that's why i was looking at the one in Coda.
-
I had a close look at the Orville in Coda today. It's in pretty mint condition. The flame top doesn't look like it's real though. But it does look like a good quality guitar.
Had a close look at the new Gibson Robot guitars too, they're freaky! :o
-
You are correct - it is not 'real' - it is a photoflame!
-
It's a photoflame.
Orvilles have japanese pots and pickups. Orville by Gibsons have CTS pots and Gibson USA pickups.
-
I've got an Orville 1995 Les paul custom ebony
Upgraded with these hardwares:(all in nickel)
BKP "Rebel Yell"
Gibson grover tuners (tulip)

CTS pots
PIO caps
Switchcraft 3 way toggle and input jack

Have you still got the original pups? You might generate more cash by sticking them back in and flogging the BKPs separately.
