Title: Selling college textbooks
Post by: kellar on September 28, 2008, 05:59:06 PM
How do you guys get rid of your old books? I have about 30 textbooks, all recent editions, that I am desperate to sell to raise some money. The problem is I study at an American University online but I live in Germany. Obviously, that makes it very difficult to sell on ebay.com because shipping rates to the USA is absolutely ridiculous.
I have tried selling the books here in Germany but I guess not many German students are looking for American textbooks.
So, I have thought about trying to sell them on ebay.co.uk. Shipping to the United Kingdom isn't too expensive. Is there a better route to go? Do students generally sell their books back in the UK?

Mine were of no value really though.

The thought has crossed my mind but I have quite a few that sell for well over 100 euros on Amazon. It seems a waste just to ditch them.

When I was at Uni (all those years ago...) the faculty acted as a go-between for 3rd year students to sell on their books to the freshers.  Does your college have that sort of thing going on?  Might be worth an ask...

Does the University know of any other German based students that they could be of help to?

i just kept mine, but then i have about 4, rather than 30... i think we could sell our old books to the uni bookstore (or at least, they'd have tried to sell them on for us), though- but as you said, problem is that you're studying at an american institution while you're in germany...

I can sell the books back to the Uni but I have to pay the crazy shipping costs, plus their buy back prices are very low.
I have tried Amazon but that doesn't really solve my problem seeing as how I would still have to pay the shipping charge back to the states.
I was thinking about putting them up on ebay.uk since shipping isn't very expensive to the United Kingdom. I am just not sure if you guys use the same books that we do. I would assume that some of them are the same.

I studied Professional Aeronautics and Management but the majority of the book I have left over are from my first two years of core study. Ex: Statistics, Literature, Management, Macro/Microeconomics, etc.
