Hey guys I have been playing a funky Ibanez gto until I recently had my Les Paul built for me, and I have seen a lot of players using the neck pickup for solos. My Ibanez was so bad that I never used the neck just the bridge. I guess it preference, but Id like to hear from you guys. My power as you all can tell is not equiptment. I can play and I studied music theory for 2 years, but when it comes to setting up my own 3 knob amp I am lost. Ha well you guys tell me what you think

they're both good
the bridge is more attacking, but the neck is great for smooth/flowing/legato stuff.
however some people emulate the neck pickup to a certain extent with the bridge by rolling down the tone control. some people will always solo on the neck, some will take a mix. i must say i prefer the bridge in 90% of situations, even if i can appreciate the great qualities of a good neck pickup.

On twin-humbucker guitars I use all three positions, depends on what sort of mood I'm trying to convey. If I want to cut and "stick it to the listener" I'd be on the bridge, but for some reason I think of the neck as more "emotional". On the middle position, I can use the twin volume knobs to blend them to get sweeter or more angry.
However, I'm really a strat player, and like all my heroes on strats I'm a compulsive knob and switch twiddler - I use all the positions for a different tone of voice.
One thing I just thought though - do you play/rehearse in a band? Remembering back (years now) I couldn't make much sense out of a neck humbucker until I was playing through an amp loud enough to get over a drummer (and part of it was fighting with the drums as well) suddenly it seemed to make sense - before that I was always using the bridge...

Not really I have a studio in my house now, and I jam with a Drummer. The room is small and its hard to make sense of things with his drums playing so loud
