Title: Pickups ordered - Abraxas: any other users?
Post by: Brow on October 06, 2008, 05:59:09 PM
Hey guys.

I've taken the plunge and ordered a new set of pickups for my PRS CU22 Trem, and after talking it through with Tim earlier, I decided on a set of Abraxas.

I told him that I wanted something along the lines of a Mule style PAF, but hotter to allow for 'better' tones when split, and he suggested either Crawlers or Abraxas. As I have a Crawler in another guitar, he suggested the Abraxas for a different 'flavour'.

I can find a fair bit of info on the Abraxas neck, but next to nothing on them as a set or the bridge pickup alone. Does anyone have either a bridge or a set of these to give me an opinion on them?

Thanks.

I think you should correct the spelling of the plurals there
:P

I have some in my Greco PRS/Eggle clone - I find them a bit 'bassy' and very sensitive to string height - more so than the Mules that I have.

Thanks for the info.

Do you find the bridge Abraxas pickup to be too bassy too? Is your Greco a maple top with trem style guitar?

It is the one in my avatar - mahogany back and maple top, Gotoh 2 pivot trem - bridge and neck pups are 'bassy' - better if I use the coil-tap that I have fitted - as I said before - sensitive to angle of pup & distance from strings.

I've ordered mine with 4 conductor for coil tap too, but you're starting to worry me now with your comments of 'too bassy'  :?

Guess I'll have to give them a go and if I don't like them, I think BKP have a returns policy.
