Title: Crawler Neck = Abraxas Neck?
Post by: drumsguitaranddeath on October 07, 2008, 09:42:15 PM
I've seen a few times now people talking about the crawler neck and abraxas neck interchangeably.
Are they actually the same pickup? Or built the same? Or sound the same or what?

Thanks

For a long time we thought they were the same, so you'll probably find that mentioned in a lot of threads.  But it turned out the Crawler is a little hotter.

See this thread, which contains a comment from Tim in the second post:

I had the same questions regarding the CS neck and the RY neck. I always thought they were the same pickups, but Tim said the Rebel Yell neck pickups are wound differently compared to the CS.

Yeah, in one of the threads about the RY it said that Steve Stevens liked both the CS and VHII neck pickups, so the RY incorporates elements from both.  Or something like that.

I remember a Steve Stevens interview said that it was originally similar, but after trying the VHII, he wanted a bit of that flavour in the pickup AS WELL. Sounds cool really
