Title: NGD..........Feline les paul
Post by: Catalyst77 on October 11, 2008, 04:31:08 PM
After what seems like a lifetime and a half have got my new Silverburst Feline Les Paul. (was a 30th BDay present from soon to be Mrs Catalyst)

http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8683.0

Started the thred above in June 07 and based on forum popular consensus i opted for a feline build in preference to a gibson les paul standard.

Thought it was only fair that i posted a few pictures so here she be, got a couple of Mules in there for the vintage feel, a sanded down neck and no tone controls just two pots which taper the humbuckers to single coils.

Sounds amazing really reasonant and the clarity and feel are spot on

Gorgeous!

Though I'm wondering if the sanding on the neck could've been done neater on the transitions?

That is just beautiful that has to be the nicest looking neck profile I have ever seen on a les paul. Sorry may not be polite to ask, but how much did it cost? Like USD so I know how many organs I should sell to buy one. Who needs Kidneys right?

Normally I would not go for such a guitar that colour but that does look pretty darn good to me. Nice one.

The allure of sean connery in a red nappy can be hard to resist!

The neck is awesome its more compact than any other LP Ive played and def lends itself to a bit of tasteful shred ; it kind of feels effortless to play.

If you're interested i'd PM Jonathon but its not really that much more than you'd expect to pay for a Silverburst les paul custom - plus its better :P

Belive or not the pictures don't actually do it justice; the silverburst has much more of a greeny blue colour in the flesh (or wood)

Glad you are enjoying the new guitar Ben

The transition between paint and wood is actually a lot more seamless than it looks .
We worked a long time to get a blend from the paint to the oil finished neck - you cant actually sense the join at all when you are playing.
Not something I am keen on doing too often as it is v time consuming

The neck profile is very nice and compact - which is what Ben requested as he doesnt have Steve Vai size hands.
It has Dunlop 6000 frets big! but they are so well blended in you hardly notice their size
The neck feel was based on a LP custom that Tim has, and also the stripped neck.

The paint has a slight green tint to it - you see it more in reality than shows up in photographs
We were trying to shoot for that colour that the silverbursts develop after 25+ years
Relicing isn't something that I am any good at - there are some guys ho are amazing at that
I don't think we got that quite as it would look on a 30 year old guitar but the colour has it's own thing going on and looks brilliant - slightly minty!
That seems to work well with the green abalone in the inlays.

Next week I hope to get Johnny Mac's back from the paintshop and be getting that assembled  :D

Just realised something Jonathan - the eye logo on your headstocks WITHOUT the script looks super cool...  Definitely prefer it to both, or just the script.

Just remember that for when I have the cash, right?

Mark.

Yeah looks nice

Far from forgotten J
Will have it hopefully Tuesday night and then start piecing it all together
From how it looked (the wood) before it went to paint I am very much looking forward to seeing this one come back - think it may well be one of my prettiest so far.

Have you got the midi/synth box as I don't have one to test it out with
The piezo acoustic pickup sounded wonderful though.
the neck profile felt rather special to - just like your Charvel.

I made the mistake of visiting the Feline site yesterday. I spent probably close to an hour ogling the green, amber, burst, and korina Lions, and the gothic SG, and the ice tea, amber, and preacher Tigers... and now I'm adrift in a sea of GAS. They're just so preeeeeetty  :(

+1

The thing I like most about Feline's Lions is they are a really smart upgrade to a classic design rather than just slavish copies.  The neck joint, neck profiles & choice of hardware all combine to make a really high quality instrument.   Then there's the build quality - the fretwork in particular is brilliant & makes them such a pleasure to play.

The stripped neck's not my thing, but that's the beauty of a custom guitar.

That silverburst is beautiful, there's a Gibson one in my Local GuitarGuitar in Newcastle and the Feline looks nicer from the photo's, it's hard to tell but If I had the cash I would probably buy the Feline.
