yo. im new here. i just wanted to post about my BKP tinkering, in case someone else finds it relevant.
so, i live in south london, i knew about BKP's for a while but id never played em. popped into wunjo guitars and spoke to the staff, they use black dogs and emeralds on a regular basis in their own guitars, so i had the opportunity to try those. i didnt like the black dogs, but the emeralds sounded sweet! i ordered a pair for my 90's les paul custom.
my les paul had all sorts of squealing issues when i was playing live. in contrast, my gordon smith for gibson 490R and 498T pickups was rock solid at dealing with feedback. i wanted my les paul to be the same. i got the HB humbuckers out and put the emeralds in. so much better! i play in a hardcore and these give me some sweeeeeeeeeet tone. i use a marshall JCM800 2205, mesa dual rec, and soldano avenger. the mesa has been my gigging amp recently and the emeralds are awesome through it. (im currently waiting on some CTS pots and sprague orange drops to wire in)
i decided to try out a miracle man in the bridge. for me it had way too much low end to it. so i put the emerald back in. not long after i swapped mypeavey 6505 for an LTD ec-1000. i decided the EMG's sounded aweful and rewired it for passives. 500K CTS pots. 0.022uf orange drop cap. i wanted this guitar to be my 'workshorse' for when i need to fly to gigs and im too worried about flying with my les paul. i got a seymour duncan 59 in the neck, since i dont use the neck much live anyway. and i put the miracle man in the bridge. SOOOOOO much better. the thinner lighter body cut down the bass characteristic of the miracle man, and it balanced out perfectly! im really pleased!
im going to recommend a miracle man to my bands other guitarist for his gordon smith. im still debating a different pickup in my les paul. maybe abraxas. but ill wait and see how much difference installing cts pots and new caps makes.
thanks for your time!

Nice personal story :)

Yam,
interesting, I had a rebel yell / cold sweat combo in my les paul but never changed the other electronics, sounds like I should think about it
(sorry for the hijack)
I have a miracle man set in my eggle, I like it but I am wondering if I should change it, it's almost too focussed, I think I would prefer something a bit more open. I am taking my nailbomb loaded RG550 to rehersal this week to see if I am right or not.

High quality pots are right up there with the pickups. It does enhance the tone. Remember to get the right value for your guitar.

yo.
got the cts pots and orange caps for my les paul.
whacked em in. and it actually sounded worse. more noise, and more prine to feedback. easily more noisey and eager to feedback than the miracle man ltd. weird, that with the stock pots and caps it sounded better. i think there is a grounding issue but i cant trace it. the pickups seem a bit weaker too. im gonna have another go at it. still debating some slightly hotter pickups maybe, but less bass response that the miracle man.

Sorry to hear about the pots not working out for you. Some gentleman on this forum use the Rs guitarworks kit with excellent results. I use to have the cts and bumblebee caps on a LP and orange drops on an SG, after th e change for the Rs kit, the tone greatly improved .
