Title: New superstrat in the hiz-ouse!
Post by: TwilightOdyssey on October 16, 2008, 05:04:10 PM
Latest Warmoth project guitar is now in my hands:

1 piece alder body, maple/maple neck, tusq nut, locking nut, OFR. Test pickup is a Zemaitis PAF clone.

nice and simple... i like it a lot

the pickup sounds interesting, i quite fancy doing a zemaitis inspired guitar at some point... i did the John Birch style SG and phil reckons my LP Jnr is very Gordon Smith so i might as well add my favorite British Luthier to that list

The pickup is very 'flat' sounding compared to a BK. It will help me decide what BK I will want to put in the guitar, I would never keep it in there.

Was this going to be your Painkiller strat or did that guitar already happen?

two questions; why a tusq nut as well as the locknut? and what does the switch do? killswitch?

oh, looks excellent by the way! i've always liked those kramer type hockey stick headstocks. looks like the Floyd's flat to the body? i know Van Halen's always had it that way. but i like a back-route myself.

health to enjoy, Ben.

The standard nut greatly helps setting the intonation when using the less-than-precise OFR saddle adjustments.

Switch is a killswitch. Simplicity itself!

Cool guitar, the colours of the body and neck match perfectly.

Simplicity is always a good way to help improve your playing rather than using gear to mask your sound. I like it, 2 settings: On or Off.

Can't say I'm a fan of the hockeystick headstock but it does suit the style of guitar so it's not too bad.

Looks like a really fun guitar, especially once it has a BKP in it.

Very nice guitar. I too am a fan of those hockey headstocks.

And also, excellent use of the word "hiz-ouse!"

excellent- i like the headstock (though i'd personally prefer non-reversed). i'd also prefer inlays, it looks a bit light/bright (something like that) with the plain fretboard. other than that, though, great. :)

Thats the vibe that I referred to in the disliking strats thread. That really looks the part

Awesome, i've actually been hankering for a kramer style one pickup guitar for ages; i like the neck too.

If you dont mind me asking how much (roughly) would one expect to part with for one of those??

Hard to say. Are you doing the finishing work yourself or having Warmoth do it? Or a tech? Who's assembling and setting it up? A BK and the OFR are $400 alone, plus body and neck, etc etc.

You'll have to le me know when they are strung up; are they general builds or for stock?

Haven't decided upon pickup choices yet
They will have Original Floyds of course, schaller or Gotoh machineheads

Not sure how I feel about it. In theory, it's great, a simple no frills rock machine. But it just looks too plain, like its a work in progress. With a slightly darker stain on the body and some inlays or maybe a rosewood board it would look great, like those natural charvel superstrats :)

I like both, but like Dave I prefer the non reversed headstocks

natural look is quite cool, even unusual. was expecting a painkiller in there too.

It looks good, but as always the lack of even a volume control distresses me more than it probably should...

I must be a control freak.
