a question about wiring-
how would i go about wiring my pickups so that i can turn the bridge pickup on when the neck pickup is selected? could i accomplish this with a push/pull pot? or would this be effectively the same thing as having the 3-way switch in the middle position?
basically i want the bridge pickup to be turned on by the push/pull switch when the 3 way selector is in the neck position. thanks for anyone who could help me with that or give an opinion on how that would work/sound

It would be the same as having the 3-way switch in the middle position, so I can't see any advantage to it. What type of guitar is it?
The only situation where I've seen a push/pull being used like that (as an on/off switch for a pickup) is in a Strat - then you can use it to add the neck (or bridge) pickup to any other selection, so you can get 7 sounds including neck+bridge and all three pickups together.

that's what i figured, just wasnt sure...i dont have the guitar, i'm just trying to work out the specs of my custom build.
it's gonna be an attempt at the endlessly pursued "Fender Les Paul" Mahogany strat body with 2 humbuckers (BKP's of course) string thru tuneomatic (not really a fender or gibson thing though) gibson neck scale length, 3 way switch.
yeah you get the idea.
now i'm sure i'm not adding anything unnecessary into the wiring of this build, i never cared for coil splitting or anything like that anyway so i see no need to complicate things. decisions...decisions....

If I was going for a Strat with humbuckers I'd use a 5-way "superswitch" to get coil-splitting options in positions 2 and 4.
Even if you don't use the extra sounds much a 5-way is no more hassle than a 3-way - at least you don't have to mess around with fiddly mini-switches or push/pull pots.

funny you should mention that, i was pondering getting the Megaswitch instead of the 3 way lp style, it's basically a copy of the PRS rotary pickup selector, just in a 5 way form... gives you those series/parallel coil splits...
i could do that easily however...just choices...depends how i feel when i get to that stage of my build i suppose..but thanks for the replies.
