Not the sort of thing that I usually go for ...
... but the deal was too good to ignore ... and it turns out that I've got an amazing new guitar.

It's just about the most honest & open guitar that I've got. As you can see, the satin finish is really thin, and you really can feel all the grain in the (mahogany) wood in the neck. I'm sure that the lack of layers of finish helps the sound too as it's a really open, vibrant sound. The P90's are apparently JJ's own, and they're absolutely great. More body than standard single coils, but loads more clarity and bite than normal HBs.
It's just a simple, honest, "does what it says on the tin" sort of guitar.
Top marks to Jeff @ JJ too for his customer service.

not seen these before but looks nice

Looks very nice!! :D
-
I love the way the finish has sunk into the grain! :)
-
I should have said ... it's a JJ Jewel Junior.
New guitar from JJ, aimed at a lower entry point than their standard range (hence lack of fancy top & finish), but still fully UK designed and made.
Incredible value for money, and I really do like the simple approach, open sound, no-messing :D

I've heard of these, they're meant to be incredible - Was it reviewed in Guitarist recently?
-
looks really nice! i am glad non-grainfilled guitars are catching on.. i much prefer a natural feel on a simpleguitar
the only thing i dont like about it is the heel, i feel the same about PRS's.
-
That looks like a great guitar!
-
Nice and simple and workmanlike- great axe.
-
I really like the look of that too. The finish is great - really my kind of thing.
Nice website too.
Mark.

+1, aside from the heel, it looks amazing, and I love the grain :)

i think that was the one i was keeping an eye on on ebay, which mysteriously disappeared... small world...
glad you like it, if someone's going to have it other than me, might as well be someone from the forum. :)

I don't remember seeing it in Guitarist, and just checked the last few issues without finding a review :? ... but they're certainly incredible instruments and great value for money considering it's all UK done.

It's a bit of a departure from my normal style of guitar, which tend to be more fancy and more finished ... but I'm really loving the JJ. I'm sure that the lack of layers of lacquers contributes hugely to the sound - clear & open. The pickups are great too, though I'll not say any more about them on this forum
The heel doesn't bother me as I never get that far up the fretboard ... I can play all the chords I need to below the 12th fret

its a good point, when was the last time a heel actually got in the way of my atrocious playing!! :)
I guess i just like things to flow

Just to prove the point ... I was teaching myself the solo to "the boys are back in town" the other evening ... quite happily plugged into my pocket pod, annoying no-one ... when I finished my wife looked over and said "what were you playing then ... you don't often play that far up the neck" ... even she realises

you paid the buy it now?
(to be fair, i couldn't try it first to make sure it was great, so obviously didn't feel too much like paying £600 for the thing)

I like it!

Hi To You All,
Thank you for all of your positive comments regarding our products. The "Jewel Junior" really has proven to be a great instrument and we look forward to our continued production of this guitar.
We also support Bare Knuckle Pickups and Simon Townshend of "The Who" is currently touring in Japan with his JJ Custom Works Signature guitar loaded with BKP P90's .. so a big thank you to BKP.
Sincerely, Thank you.
