Post by: warpthrone on October 31, 2008, 06:40:53 PM
Anyone know where i can get a momentary switch from in the UK, i know about radioshack but I'm dubious about importing something so small.
Any ohter suggestions would be very helpful.  :D thanks.

You want a momentary switch? For a guitar, or effects pedal?

Or a push to make and send the signal to earth works just as well??

You need the "momentary" version of this - http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2504

I have installed one of these on my LP, and it works great.

This seller on eBay has hundreds of them, in all different shapes, colours, quantities and sizes:

They're in Hong Kong, but don't let that put you off, they're very quick and efficient.

Guitar, But putting one in and effects pedal seems like a good idea, if you build a separate one that you can operate with your foot...

But anyway thanks guys i will check it out.

P.s when it says momentary push-on/release-off non-locking. Does that mean that when i push the switch it will kill the sound or does it mean that i have to push the switch down to get any sound?

It will play normally, but when you push it in, no sound will come out. It works well when playing a long chord or something, and cutting out the sound. The other guitarist in my band has one, it's cool. :)

When the switch is pressed in, the connection of the circuit is made complete. When the button is released, the circuit is broken again.
BUT .... you should install the switch to send your guitar signal to ground, so when the contact is made (button pressed in) the guitar is silent as all your signal is going to ground.  When you release the button, the contact is broken, and your signal no longer can disappear to ground, and your sound "re-appears" !!

Those are feckin' awesome, lol..

One crazy story I did hear, was a friend's friend put a key lock on his guitar. So only he could 'turn it on' as such cause of the key

Yeah it does, it was really easy to instal too, only need two wires to be soldered to the earth and hot wires on the output jack.
