Some backingtrack on the new guitarist was leading to this blues recording.
VHII set in Edwards Les Paul Std.
On the Axe FX I used a Bogner XTC (red channel) model on low gain but 8/10 master (very saggy) and a Blues Jr. tone stack instead of the original one.
Mic'ed with an SM57 on a Bogner 4x12 cab.

Sounds Fat, I'm liking the pickups and Axe-FX (which I've never heard of).
Is it digital moddeling? If so that's by far the best I've heard.....
Playing sounds a bit Jimmy Page, never a bad thing!

The Axe FX is indeed a modeler, but a bit different for several reasons:
Top notch components, AD/DA converters, opamps, etc are all of highest quality. Extreme processor power, the unit falls under export restrictions, so much power it has. Also due to this, In/Out latency is just 0.8ms (around 10% of a good sound card). Low latency is very important for a real "amp" feel. And then, as far as I understand, modeling in the axe is not on amp level as in other units but in fact on component level (capacitors, pots, tubes, transformers, ...), which makes it very flexible in terms of modifications. So you can exchange tone stacks between different amps, reduce/increase transformer sizes, change center frequency of tone stacks, etc...
Well, in the end it's just important that it sounds good!

I have recently been wondering what the Blues would sound like with the VHIIs . I have an S.G. that currently has AIV Stormy Mondays in - and I have been tempted to put in a hotter ( but still vintage ) set of B.K.P in to live up to it's 'bad boy' shape and lineage. I heard the other VHII clips on this forum, and they where exciting to hear, but not being played in the style I wanted an example of ( until you posted this clip ). They sound livelier and not as dry as the Riff Raffs, with the extra edge being somehow balanced by a fuller and rounder bass response / glassier treble presentation.

Wow, that sounds very nice. Great playing and tone :) After listening to some of your other VHII clips, I think I'm nearly sold :D
