i think its time i bit the bullet and invest in a new amp. ive narrowed it down to th two mentioned above. both 75W, masses of effects and amp types etc etc. i havent had a chance to play the vypyr yet has anyone tried it? from what i can make out from reviews it produces killer tones compared to the line 6. but the line 6 has more features and the jam along tracks and 24 minute recording time are a big +. i think it sounds pretty good but a few people seem to think the line 6 sucks!
so basically im debating wether to sacrafice tone for the extra features of the line 6? help! :?

I vote Vypyr. I'm a big Line 6 fan, but their Spider amps just don't cut it. All the clips and testimonials about the Vypyr seem very promising, though. How likely are you to really need the extra features of the Spider Jam?

In that price range I find Roland Cubes to be the best by far.

I cannot really comment on which amp is best, but for me I would go with better tone instead of the addional bells and whistle's.

No point having lots of features if they don't sound as good. I don't know with is the best, haven't played the vypyr, but tone is more important than lots of different souds, IMO.

+1 (I haven't tried the vypyr yet). Try the cube 60 too, as hunter mentioned.

The Vypyr is meant to be brilliant though, I certainly want to give it a try!

i thinks the answers pretty obvious when u put it like that! i think the peaveys the one theyre getting rave reviews! im going to try one asap as well as the cube. ill keep u posted 8)

i'm after a new amp, too. i narrowed it down to a valvetronix 50/100, and a vypyr 75. i went out to try both today, but the vox stockist was shut, so i only got to play the vypyr.
wow! sounds flippin amazin! i'm also seduced by the usb connection, and the sanpera 2 'star trek' pedal thingy, that opens up the 400 presets or whatever, and the looper function.
still tempted to try a vox, but i think i'm in lust!

Cube or valvetronix
Word has it the vyprs break all the time, and I look at all those gay little lights and just see money that wasnt spent on making it sound better or be reliable.

i haven't heard that anywhere else-and i've been listening... ok, lights are a bit gay, but the one i tried earlier in the week kicked arse!

since the previous post about vypyrs breaking down all the time, i've been asking around on all the other music gear forums that i use, and NOBODY has heard of vypyrs breaking down all the time.
rumours, eh...!

Very common story on HCAF.
But it is HCAF, so maybe its exagerated.

If you're playing a tele, the little gay lights are the least of your problems ;)

c--ksucker!

You don't need to tell me that, I can tell you do by the fact that you play a tele.
Don't blame the messenger, dude, I'm just telling it how it is ;)

Dragging this entertaining light banter back on topic....... I have played the Vypyr and it is really good for a solid state modelling amp. There were some reliability issues when it first came out but I think the latest firmware updates fixed that. The Valvetronix series is also very good but not so much on high gain, though the new VT series is supposed to be better.

Compared to what I started to play guitar on (Marlboro SS Combo), this is really amazing!
Maybe I should get one for the living room fun ... but then it's so ugly with those plastic ... snake teeth?
