Title: Need some suggestions
Post by: -M- on November 10, 2008, 03:40:36 PM
Hi guys, new user here  :D

I need some suggestions for what to put into my les paul custom. I mostly play metal, but I throw in the occational classic rock from time to time.

At the moment I've got a duncan jb in the bridge and I kind of like it, but I'd like something with a bit more "chunk" to it. Really like the lead sounds I get out of it though, so I guess I'm looking for something like the jb, only with a tighter low end.

Now, the neck is where I'm having problems. At the moment I've got the stock pup in there, and I'm not quite happy with it. Way too muddy for my tastes. I need something tight, articulate that will give me a nice sound for soloing, sweeping and the likes :)

So, any suggestions?

Thanx man!

That might be just what I'm looking for. I was also a bit curious about the miracle man.. What would it be like in the bridge?

It would be fat, loud, fairly bright with a huge but extremely defined bottom end, and a comparatively tamed mid section. Don't ask me how it would stack up with the CS neck, because I don't use neck pickups. Other uses seem to put the CS neck with pretty much any high output bridge with good success...

then you want a holy diver
maybe a nailbomb

the cold sweat and miracle man are completely different from a JB

Well, it doesn't really have to be like the jb, it's just that I've allready got one in my guitar and like the way it sounds for leads. I'm guessing the mid-spike has something to do with it.
Anyway, I'm open to all suggestions. I just want something with a tight low end for riffing and a "singing" quality to the leads (if that makes any sense at all).

After reading in this forum I get the feeling that no matter what I end up choosing will be a step up from what I've got :D

For once Darth Hellstyle and I agree (pretty much): I call nailbomb.

I've been lurking around the forum for a while now, and it's not often you see that happening

So I guess it's settled then, I'll get the nailbomb.

What about the neck pickup? I was pretty much set on the cold sweat, but do you have any other suggestions?

Tight, articulate, soloing and sweeps?

The CS can do all that, but the Painkiller can do it better.

So, to sum up: Nailbomb for the bridge and Painkiller neck?

Thanks a lot for your help guys! I'll get around to ordering real soon I hope  :D

Yup.

Pk neck is the tightest, and extremely clear.

The CS blurs notes very pleasantly, and is great for legato, but sos the PK, and the PKs better for picking, sweeping and note definition in general.

It should balance with a NB. It may be odd having a ceramic neck adn A5 bridge, but I dont see a problem.
