Seems a tad overpriced to me! I'm no expert though.

That price would be hard to justify for a fuzz pedal. Just my opinion.

+1
I know it's all handmade and carefully painted but component count is pretty small (although some bits are NOS)
Of course to get an original (which might not work very well anyway by now) would be equally pricey
I remember thinking i was mad in 1987 for spending £80 back on a RAT pedal
-
veroboard, not even own PCB :/
-
I do really want a fuzz pedal at the moment but don't want to spend loads of money on it - the Zvex Fuzz Factory is also pretty expensive for what you get. Maybe BYOC is the way to go.

it surely is

I have a D*A*M Meathead and it's an absolutely fantastic pedal.
None of their normal output is remotely that expensive, these are one offs.
Though a lot of their pedals do rcket to daft prices on ebay as there is quite a wait on some of them, brand new my Meathead was just over a hundred I think, maybe just below, similar to my Z.Vex FF anyway and there's not even a comparison in quality, the D*A*M kicks it's arse up and down the road.
To answer the question though, no, it isn't worth that, unless you're excited by it being a one off "art" piece.
-
i can see a 1 off being worth what ever someone will pay, and think its funny he made an issue of censoring the boobs only to place the pedal on a picture with a boob in it
but this one got me

its not even a one off and the finish aint that special!!

Sue built the BYOC Tone Bender II ESV last weekend, very nice fuzz pedal for £50!
-
No chance I would ever pay that. That finish isn't even that great. I could probably paint that, not like it's some amazing art, it's just a dodgy picture painted on there.
Is pretty funny he censored the cartoon boobs and its sitting on a bunch of pictures of real boobs.
-
How $%ing much?! :o In my opinion, that isn't worth £500. No way. You can buy a half decent amp for less than that, to say nothing of a guitar.
-
Nothing wrong with strip board, it's pretty low noise and easy to work with. If he can charge that much for something that cost maybe £30 in parts, i could make a fortune with knock of pedals made on my dining room table!

Currently standing at £901.30 with over a day to go.
I was going to say what I usually do - that an item's "worth" whatever someone is prepared to pay for it. But £900 for a pedal is, frankly, insane. :|

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - you could buy 3 DAM pedals with that kind of money (yes the pun is vigorously included).
-
haha,
in no way could I see that being justified, here's a list of much better things you could do with that money-
-a zvex fuzz factory for 1/3 or 1/4 the price
-a devi-ever fuzz for 1/10 the price
-down payment on a custom guitar
-down payment on a house
-a manson modified squier with built in fuzz factory
-a Ibanez JEM
-anAmerican Standard Strat
-a Princeton Reverb reissue
-just a few more bones and you could get a soldano astroverb
the list goes on......................... some of his pedals are so much more expensive than that one you could almost pay off a custom Legra 8)
-
I think hell no would be the answer to your question.
-
None of us have played either of these pedals; who are we to say what they're worth? They could bring about eargasm with every note (and for those sort of prices they'd bloody better do!).
-
Oddly enough, there were no last-minute bids - the Size Queen went for £520.00 and the Fuzzaround for £901.30.

i'd say common sense steps in for that one.......by comparison a zvex fuzz factory which is considered a top-of-the-line fuzz retails for $250 for the higher quality version, i fail too see how some no name brand fuzz pedal for ~$1000 dollars would be any much better.......not to mention he has pedals going for ~1800, he is simply preying on people's stupidity...and the haughty folks who just love to toss around expensive gear

Like I said earlier, my D*A*M Metalhead blows my Fuzz Factory out the water.
I think saying he's preying on people's stupidity is harsh, that's a pedal he's built based on a rare pedal people pay more for, AND it's an auction, he hasn't set that massive price.
What's he meant to do? Refuse to accept what people bid? :? And the others were one offs, the normal versions of the pedals are less than half the price.
You think if Zachary Vex did some one of versions of Fuzz Factorys they wouldn't be outrageous prices?
EDIT: Also, You also seem to imply that a brand you aren't familiar with CANNOT make a better product than a brand you know well simply because YOU are more familiar with one than the other. Which is extremely daft.

the fact that if you get your name put on the waiting list for DAM, you will be paying less than 400 for a pedal (so i am told).

I think you would learn well not to throw a tantrum over a product discussion :violin1:
I've listened to some sound clips of their products, nice yes, but I think the overall impression from most of the forum is a sense of ridiculousness

The market for vintage fuzz pedals is huge, and consequently any vintage fuzz pedals cost £lots. D*A*M built up an excellent name by making reproductions of hard to get vintage pedals, such as the mark 2 tonebender, using vintage correct parts. The Buzzaround is very rare indeed, so when they did the Fuzzaround copy the fuzz freaks went crazy for them. As D*A*M is just 2 people making pedals it's a case of demand massively outweighing supply.
Because D*A*M are so well thought of and are considered by some to be future treasures. I suspect many of their pedals - especially the one-off's like the Size Quesn - are bought to be part of collections rather than played regularly.
Regardless though, the desirability of their pedals and the success they have acheived speaks volumes about the quality of their products. I once owned one of their Drag'n'flys. Without doubt the best fuzz I've owned, and I've owned several. I regret selling it and am on one of the wait lists to get a replacement.
