Yup, same here!

I have no holidays to use over christmas, so couldn't attend myself, but anyone that can attend should.

We did 1 on another forum I go on and it turned into a 15 hour drink and jam session  :D

I think it's a good idea... might say that, when I go London again, all those who refuse to go, will be persued and beaten like a dog

I'm supposed to start trying boxing this week and I've fought Tae Kwon Do

The trouble with London is that it's SOOOOOOOOO far for us Northerners to get to!

Make it somewhere central, and it could be a winner....
Title: Re: maybe TO is right and we should hook it up?
Post by: WezV on November 16, 2008, 03:35:24 PM
i was going to suggest central as well... how about burton ;)
Title: Re: maybe TO is right and we should hook it up?
Post by: gwEm on November 16, 2008, 03:48:43 PM
i've met TO, his band, philking, gingataff, feline and most recently will, was fun each time.

there is quite a few of us in the london area. if we get three of us in one place we qualify for drink-up status.

but more ambitiously, it would be nice to go nationwide.

realistically, each time we tried to hook up we blew it due to timing problems, people cancelling etc. thats why i think it might be easier to be less ambitious and go for london drinks. we don't want ben laughing at us again ;)

I'm up for a meet-up, however if it were going to be anywhere 'in between' then I'd have to meet with someone in London and they'd have to lead the way, lol..

I dunno if I want to meet you lot, you all seem like metal headed grebos to me, you might pollute the purity of my blues playing (or show me up for the cr@p I am) :)

How about meeting at the metal pub (Intrepid Fox) at the tip of Denmark Street like suggested last year - 6 December?  Wear some sort of picture of a bareknuckle boxer as ID?

Might get more folk meeting up that way  ;)

Is this place far from Euston or Marylebone?
Title: Re: maybe TO is right and we should hook it up?

I'm guessing the IF is the one by Tottenham Court Rd?
Title: Re: maybe TO is right and we should hook it up?
Post by: Elliot on November 24, 2008, 09:22:14 AM
Yeah - Tottenham Court Road tube - find Denmark Street off of it (the one wiv the guitars in it) and its in a 60s type building at the top of the road.

Also ot far from Euston or King's Cross at all.  Or Charing Cross for that matter.

Very close to Euston if you're on tube, and even if you're not, not a long walk by any means.

What sort of time are we talking?

I'm initially thinking broad categories of "lunch", "afternoon", "evening"... I could make any of these.

I'm not planning on being very late though (need my pipe and slippers etc...)
Title: Re: maybe TO is right and we should hook it up?
Post by: WezV on November 29, 2008, 09:48:49 AM
well i am 90% there, i need to escape burton for a day or so.   I need to book a train so which station should i aim for.   I will probably get down to london for lunch/early afternoon but can easliy kill time for a while for a late afternoon/early evening meet

also, is it worth me bringing a guitar down?   If so i am torn between my fanned fret prototype (messy and imperfect in places but plays and sounds great, its my main guitar) or the little white explorer pro shape.

Title: Re: maybe TO is right and we should hook it up?
Post by: FernandoDuarte on November 29, 2008, 01:31:30 PM
For distance problems I'm obvious not going there... but I believe you should carry the fanned fret if you decided to do it... I'm sure everybody is waiting a change to play it... (well, I'm and I like 24,75" scale)

i wouldn't mind checking that explorer pro out, but maybe its is a bit of an effort to haul it around.

Nice one...

So timing-wise it looks like we could be heading for a mid-afternoon to mid-evening sort of window?

I'm possibly trying to fit christmas shopping round it, but no big plans yet... the only thing I'm actually committed to at the moment is: "Of course darling, there's no way I'm walking into any shop in Denmark Street under the influence of alcohol..."

Ok, I've told my woman I'm going drinking with a bunch of guitarist that I know from the internet and she looked at me in a strange way.

What time? Ok lets say 7:00 in The Intrepid Fox St Giles High St London WC2.

The shops in Denmark St should still be open around that time too. I'll have a good look around first.  :D

I'll wear my BKP T-Shirt!

Title: Re: maybe TO is right and we should hook it up?
Post by: AndyR on December 02, 2008, 10:02:05 AM
7 sounds good to me - that's what I'll aim for unless there are further developments...

I know what's going to happen, we're all going to cruise the the Denmark St shops, so there's gonna be a bunch of us carrying gigbags etc after "accidental purchases"

Except for Wez, of course, who will have sold his Explorer to Vintage and Rare and set up a lucrative distribution deal with them...

Alas I don't have a BKP t-shirt, I had been wondering about displaying one of the stickers/labels that come in the BKP boxes (but I don't want to look more of a dork than I usually do!).

I understand that in my current state of dishevelment I'm a bit of a James May look-a-like (but with slightly longer hair, and a side parting) - but I'm not convinced that this description is actually that helpful for people who've never seen me before!!

but what about you jonathan???

Sounds good - glad it looks like we will make it
I will be there about 7ish
I might bring a guitar if it's not too crowded - sometimes breathing space is at a premium in the Fox on a weekend.

If we need the beer to be cheaper we could all move en masse to the Weatherspoons on Charing X Road at some point (what used to be the Marquee club).

Does everybody know where the Intrepid Fox is?
Don't be confused with it's old location on Wardour Street - it is now at the bottom end of Denmark Street (where all the guitar shops are)
The front of it is pictured above - you can see Centre-point behind it on it's left

For me it all depends on how band Practice today goes... Been on the phone with my drummer, and he decided it was ok to sleep in till midday, meaning he won't get here till one... Meaning our so called "all day" practice has been shrunk... Grrrr.

I'm gunna do everything I can to make sure I can come, but if I'm guilt tripped to stay and practice longer I'll text Wez.

Hmmmmm....

[excuses mode]Chickened out.... I'm quite introverted and severely lacking in social skills at the best of times, but I'm particularly bad when meeting people for the first time.  Even though I "sort-of know" you guys, and I have met Jon before.

And I'm not very good with noisy crowded places - like pubs for example.  I get a bit claustrophobic and I've never acquired that strange skill of "shouting and nodding to make conversation", so I just end up going very quiet, which makes me seem weird(er).

Plus (not casting aspersions here!) I was worried it might turn into a really heavy drinking session, and I'm not really a drinker....

....which is why I was still feeling rough from having a few drinks at the staff lunch on Friday.  [/excuses mode]

Sorry guys, hope it was a good evening.  :)

It was great to meet more of you guys from the forum. We had a good night.
It was funny introducing myself to a group of men, that i didn't know, in a pub that i thought could be them. I was waiting for Jonathon to turn up as I know Jon already. But time was ticking by and i was looking around the pub and thought that a bunch of 4 guys could be them. So based on Andy's description that he looks like James May from Top gear and gwEm looking a bit like his avatar I walked over and said are you guys from an internet forum? Note i didn't say are you from the bare knuckle pickup forum. If I had picked the wrong guys this could have been grossly misunderstood!  But they all said yes. After a few in The Intrepid Fox, we then went to the Maquiss Of Granby in Shaftesbury Avenue, on Cambridge Circus. The doorman was a bit uneasy in letting in an all male group but we talked him into it. Then we all went our separate ways after seeing the most incredible pair of legs cross the road outside the pub!

We should do it again in a few months, it doesn't need to be Christmas.

Jonathon, post the picture with the fingers!!!

I ended up watching a cheesy pub band after previous arrangements fell through. :(

I had a great time - it was good to meet the real people behind the posts...

We did reach just about the limit of my drinking abilities - if I'd had another I'd have been in the same state as some of the sorry folks I encountered on the tube on the way home

Funnily enough I found the missus in a worse state than me when I got home - she'd decided to watch Mama Mia while I was out (I'd been making grumbling noises about its appearance near the dvd player so she assumes that I don't want to sit through it...), and she thought she'd have a nice vodka martini to go with it. It's not entirely clear what happened, but contributing factors have been identified as follows: a) she needs to learn that vodka martinis like we make them probably need to be consumed with some sort of food (the olives are not enough to soak up the alcohol), and possibly b) if there's only one of us present, one needs to make slightly less (eg half) as much as we usually do...

I'd definitely be up for another meet in London - I'd even brave the Intrepid Fox again, with its overpowering loudness of music and its distinctive fragrance in the water closets...

Sorry to hear about the lung infection Elliot - hope it clears up in time for Christmas.
