I will go for it, as long as there are a few other young'ns around!
And the trains don't scare me too much
-
if you don't, you're one sorry lot... me and TO have met up more often than most of you guys..
-
if you don't, you're one sorry lot... me and TO have met up more often than most of you guys..
Yup, same here!
I have no holidays to use over christmas, so couldn't attend myself, but anyone that can attend should.
We did 1 on another forum I go on and it turned into a 15 hour drink and jam session :D
-
I think it's a good idea... might say that, when I go London again, all those who refuse to go, will be persued and beaten like a dog
I'm supposed to start trying boxing this week and I've fought Tae Kwon Do
-
The trouble with London is that it's SOOOOOOOOO far for us Northerners to get to!
Make it somewhere central, and it could be a winner....
-
i was going to suggest central as well... how about burton ;)
-
i've met TO, his band, philking, gingataff, feline and most recently will, was fun each time.
there is quite a few of us in the london area. if we get three of us in one place we qualify for drink-up status.
but more ambitiously, it would be nice to go nationwide.
realistically, each time we tried to hook up we blew it due to timing problems, people cancelling etc. thats why i think it might be easier to be less ambitious and go for london drinks. we don't want ben laughing at us again ;)
-
well i can aim to get down london but it is a trek, i will be reliant on trains and obviously its that time of year when everyone is busy
-
I've met Phil King and Tim at music live in '05, but I didnt realise it was Phil until afterwards
-

Ah, but with my newly acquired running skills you'll never catch me!
-
Ah, but with my newly acquired running skills you'll never catch me!
Today it's true
In a year (if I really work out the way I should) not that much
-
Well, you have youth on your side! :P
-
Well, you have youth on your side! :P
Just to make my 1000th post 8)
-
I'm up for a meet-up, however if it were going to be anywhere 'in between' then I'd have to meet with someone in London and they'd have to lead the way, lol..
-
I dunno if I want to meet you lot, you all seem like metal headed grebos to me, you might pollute the purity of my blues playing (or show me up for the cr@p I am) :)
How about meeting at the metal pub (Intrepid Fox) at the tip of Denmark Street like suggested last year - 6 December? Wear some sort of picture of a bareknuckle boxer as ID?

great plan - i'm in!
-
pictures w/names or it didnt happen
-
if we get enough of us i might be able to swing it... anyone else from the midlands up for it? my problem is getting down there and were to stay
-
I'm another 1 from the Midlands, so if anyone from around this way is upfor something more 'central', then I'm definitely upfor that
-
I'm in London the following weekend, otherwise I'd have nipped by.
Not that I'd know anyone
-
Im from the north.. cant see me getting down for it.
-
lets keep this positive! :) try just to post if you can definitely or possibly make it :) 8)
-
well i have clearance but will need to book a train ticket soon if this is happening.... so who's in?
-
Me
-
Me
-
What about cornwall? I`m near to Posh collins
-
How about a couple of meets on the same day? Say one in London, one in Birmingham/Manchester etc?
Might get more folk meeting up that way ;)
-
well then i would be torn where to go! Birmingham is 40 minutes, london is two hours on the train, manchester is about 2 1/2 but costs less... cornwall is about 1/2 a day!!!
-
Me
Johnny Mac? Afghan? Feline? Philly Q?
-
I'm only a "possibly" - planning to take the previous week off if I can, so I may not be around that weekend.
-
I'm a possible - need to find out what plans my wife has for me
-
i would love to do this but im only allowed 1 day annual leave during december and im taking that on the 26th as if i dont i have to go back in for one day after christmas, whereas if i take it off i get to stay off till 5th jan
-
Am I the only one gigging around here? My reason for non attendance is that I am, as usual, gigging. I am out on the 5th, 6th and possibly the 7th.
-
Newcastle is nice and central - great pubs too.
-
well i am still a maybe... but if more of you folks dont sign up i wong be forking out the train fair to london.... COME ON, pull the finger out or TO wins
otherwise i will be dragging Phil to a burton pub just to prove a point in the week before chistmas... i would rather drag phil to a pub to show him the local ales and how burtonized our burton water is ;)
me, i come from the home of brewing and if a midlands gathering is needed i am willing!!!!!!!!! but my house is small... planty of breweries though, and if we cant organise a piss up in a brewery town then TO wins!!
-

quite!
COME ON LONDONERS!!
-
I'm absolutely up for a meet up in the Intrepid Fox. I go there quite alot anyway.
-
Is this place far from Euston or Marylebone?
-
I'm guessing the IF is the one by Tottenham Court Rd?
-
Yeah - Tottenham Court Road tube - find Denmark Street off of it (the one wiv the guitars in it) and its in a 60s type building at the top of the road.
Also ot far from Euston or King's Cross at all. Or Charing Cross for that matter.
-
Are we still talking Saturday 6th? At this IF place...
I'm in if we are :D
What sort of time?
-
Is this place far from Euston or Marylebone?
Very close to Euston if you're on tube, and even if you're not, not a long walk by any means.
-
So the saving remnant from the sins of Sodom and Gomoroah on 6 December at the Intrepid Fox are:
GwEM
Noodleplugerine
AndyR
Jonny
Elliot
Possibles:
WezV
Come on Johnny Mac - you must be available?
Anyone else? Let not let the NYPC (poseur core) win this year :)
-
Unfortunately a bit far, for me...said before maybe should do a Northern-ish one
-
decent turn out this time!
as andyr says what sort of time do we want to do it?
not too early, not too late i imagine. personally i don't care too much about that, i can combine the visit to the west end with a bit of crimbo shopping
-
I cant do that weekend, because I'm attending a pirates vs ninjas night at one of the metal clubs here  :P
-
Hang on....
...wait a minute...
.. I live in the Midlands. I work at a rock/metal pub. We serve great beer and are very muso friendly, why dont you all come to me?!!!
-
where in the midlands?
-
Sounds like Sawyers in Kettering?

Sorry I'm a bit late on this one.........Yes, OK I'll be there.
Let's make it happen :D
How will we know who we all are? Is there a specific part of the pub we can all meet in?
-
i am still a possible/maybe... shalll i book a train ticket and be a definate!!!
-
i am still a possible/maybe... shalll i book a train ticket and be a definate!!!
theres only one answer to that question and it begins with the letter 'y'
-
What sort of time are we talking?
I'm initially thinking broad categories of "lunch", "afternoon", "evening"... I could make any of these.
I'm not planning on being very late though (need my pipe and slippers etc...)
-
well i am 90% there, i need to escape burton for a day or so. I need to book a train so which station should i aim for. I will probably get down to london for lunch/early afternoon but can easliy kill time for a while for a late afternoon/early evening meet
also, is it worth me bringing a guitar down? If so i am torn between my fanned fret prototype (messy and imperfect in places but plays and sounds great, its my main guitar) or the little white explorer pro shape.
-
For distance problems I'm obvious not going there... but I believe you should carry the fanned fret if you decided to do it... I'm sure everybody is waiting a change to play it... (well, I'm and I like 24,75" scale)
-

we will let you off fernando!
but what about you jonathan???

i wouldn't mind checking that explorer pro out, but maybe its is a bit of an effort to haul it around.
-
nah, i dont drive so am used to having a guitar strapped to my back!! in fact, with clever packing the explorer gig bag might be the only luggage i need for 1 night
-
tickets are booked!!! see you guys next saturday
-
Nice one...
So timing-wise it looks like we could be heading for a mid-afternoon to mid-evening sort of window?
I'm possibly trying to fit christmas shopping round it, but no big plans yet... the only thing I'm actually committed to at the moment is: "Of course darling, there's no way I'm walking into any shop in Denmark Street under the influence of alcohol..."
-
Ok, I've told my woman I'm going drinking with a bunch of guitarist that I know from the internet and she looked at me in a strange way.
What time? Ok lets say 7:00 in The Intrepid Fox St Giles High St London WC2.
The shops in Denmark St should still be open around that time too. I'll have a good look around first. :D
I'll wear my BKP T-Shirt!
-
7 sounds good to me - that's what I'll aim for unless there are further developments...
I know what's going to happen, we're all going to cruise the the Denmark St shops, so there's gonna be a bunch of us carrying gigbags etc after "accidental purchases"
Except for Wez, of course, who will have sold his Explorer to Vintage and Rare and set up a lucrative distribution deal with them...
Alas I don't have a BKP t-shirt, I had been wondering about displaying one of the stickers/labels that come in the BKP boxes (but I don't want to look more of a dork than I usually do!).
I understand that in my current state of dishevelment I'm a bit of a James May look-a-like (but with slightly longer hair, and a side parting) - but I'm not convinced that this description is actually that helpful for people who've never seen me before!!
-
we will let you off fernando!
but what about you jonathan???
Sounds good - glad it looks like we will make it
I will be there about 7ish
I might bring a guitar if it's not too crowded - sometimes breathing space is at a premium in the Fox on a weekend.
If we need the beer to be cheaper we could all move en masse to the Weatherspoons on Charing X Road at some point (what used to be the Marquee club).
-
Guess who's hours at work changed from Monday morning to Saturday evening a couple of weeks ago? Yep, I unfortunately can't make it, typical! Ah well, hopefully we'll have another London meet sometime in '09 :)
-
^ Throw a sicky dude!
-
yeah, definately call in sick!
-
i should be in london by midday but am more than happy to amuse myself for a bit... but now i am wondering about bringing a guitar... not just because i might be ashamed next to jonathans ;) But if it is going to make me be in the way i wont bother
its been a shitety week so far and i need a drink!!!!! although its only tuesday so i might just have one now :)
-
see you guys at 7.
for cheap beer theres a sam smiths pub even more close by - but wetherspoons works too.
agree this needs a sticky ;)
-
Expect the fox to be absolutely packed, atleast it was when I was there last saturday. But then again, maybe 7 is a bit early for the big crowds.
-
So who's definitely going then?
I'm going, it should be good fun.
Once we all get there if it does get too packed we could do a relocate. We will need a camera for pics or the yanks won't believe us!
-
I was thinking exact the same thing (who's actually going?)
I'm definitely going.
It depends on how things pan out tomorrow whether I look on here again between now and leaving for the meet...
SO DON'T CHANGE THE PLANS ANYONE!!!
(EDIT: I'll have to check now, won't I?)
-
The temperature drops down to -4 Sat night so put your coats on!!
Also some kind of hat may be in order!
I'll have to give our Afghan Dave a shout on Facebook.
-
^ Throw a sicky dude!
yeah, definately call in sick!
Well, i called up work to see if i could change the shift.... and they'd given me holiday for that day, without telling me! So i'm free :) See you guys there!
-
great news Oli!!!

Does everybody know where the Intrepid Fox is?
Don't be confused with it's old location on Wardour Street - it is now at the bottom end of Denmark Street (where all the guitar shops are)
The front of it is pictured above - you can see Centre-point behind it on it's left
-
thx for that feline, twill help tomorrow, quite distictive and not what i expected from my last trip to denamrk street in 2001... tbh my memory has it as this twee little little street full of tiny little guitar shops and i know thats not quite the reality
-
Guys, do this again once and I'll take the Eurostar!!
-
Have a good time guys-think of me slogging away at a gig and don't laugh too much ( I have a sore throat and after a 3 hour gig last night I could do with not playing tonight).

Your memory of Denmark St is correct Wez, this is when you turn left at the end of it.
Well I'll see you all tonight. My brother wants too come as he likes beer!
-
Yeah, have a couple on me, guys. I'm at home with a rotten cold, and wouldn't want to be known as the most germ ridden & infectious BKP member...
:(
-
For me it all depends on how band Practice today goes... Been on the phone with my drummer, and he decided it was ok to sleep in till midday, meaning he won't get here till one... Meaning our so called "all day" practice has been shrunk... Grrrr.
I'm gunna do everything I can to make sure I can come, but if I'm guilt tripped to stay and practice longer I'll text Wez.
-
Anyone remembering to bring a camera ?
Or else Ben (TO) will be:
Pix or it didn't happen
USA!
USA!
USA!
USA!
USA!
-
Well - it happened

-
I can recognize Wez and Jonathan, the others will have to be "introduced"
EDIT: Can recognize gwEm too!
-
I'm thinking that's AndyR, Johnny Mac, Johnny's brother and gwEm.
But who's hidden at the back?
(And who's taking the picture?)
-
I would have been in that picture IF I FECKING READ THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE THIS WEEKEND.
In a way I'm glad cause I would have stuck out of that picture.
-
I'm thinking that's AndyR, Johnny Mac, Johnny's brother and gwEm.
But who's hidden at the back?
(And who's taking the picture?)
Hidden: Transcend??? (sorry I forgot your name)
-
Deat Lord, that's grim looking bunch!
Hope you had a good time, guys.
Mark.
-
I'm thinking that's AndyR, Johnny Mac, Johnny's brother and gwEm.

(And who's taking the picture?)
...and where are YOU?
:o)
-
The one at the back looks a bit like lepersmeesa but I could be wrong
Turns out I couldve gone to this afterall, the pirate and ninja night didnt happen in the end
-
It's Oli at the back
Someone in the pub took the picture

Hmmmmm....
[excuses mode]Chickened out.... I'm quite introverted and severely lacking in social skills at the best of times, but I'm particularly bad when meeting people for the first time. Even though I "sort-of know" you guys, and I have met Jon before.
And I'm not very good with noisy crowded places - like pubs for example. I get a bit claustrophobic and I've never acquired that strange skill of "shouting and nodding to make conversation", so I just end up going very quiet, which makes me seem weird(er).
Plus (not casting aspersions here!) I was worried it might turn into a really heavy drinking session, and I'm not really a drinker....
....which is why I was still feeling rough from having a few drinks at the staff lunch on Friday. [/excuses mode]
Sorry guys, hope it was a good evening. :)
-
Sorry not to have seen you Philly
Wasn't a heavy drinking session - think I had 3 or 4 beers all evening (I'm a lightweigt myself)
Was fun though - shame Afghan couldn't make it
We'll have to do it again sometime
-
EDIT: Can recognize gwEm too!
Its the big devils horns isn't it?
-
It was great to meet more of you guys from the forum. We had a good night.
It was funny introducing myself to a group of men, that i didn't know, in a pub that i thought could be them. I was waiting for Jonathon to turn up as I know Jon already. But time was ticking by and i was looking around the pub and thought that a bunch of 4 guys could be them. So based on Andy's description that he looks like James May from Top gear and gwEm looking a bit like his avatar I walked over and said are you guys from an internet forum? Note i didn't say are you from the bare knuckle pickup forum. If I had picked the wrong guys this could have been grossly misunderstood! But they all said yes. After a few in The Intrepid Fox, we then went to the Maquiss Of Granby in Shaftesbury Avenue, on Cambridge Circus. The doorman was a bit uneasy in letting in an all male group but we talked him into it. Then we all went our separate ways after seeing the most incredible pair of legs cross the road outside the pub!
We should do it again in a few months, it doesn't need to be Christmas.
Jonathon, post the picture with the fingers!!!
-
It's Oli at the back
Someone in the pub took the picture
This should be reported to the Moderator, with a caption (presumably the picture should show up though)
UK! UK! UK!
I ended up watching a cheesy pub band after previous arrangements fell through. :(
-
EDIT: Can recognize gwEm too!
Its the big devils horns isn't it?
gwEm, you didn't go to the screening of Anvil! The Story of Anvil at the London Film Festival, did you? If not, I'm sure I was sitting next to your doppelganger.

I was thinking of you guys.During the break last night I tried to log on using my mate's laptop but we lost the connection.
-
Wow, it finally happened!!
Congratulations!
-
Apologies for not making it guys, I really wanted to :(
But looks like you had a laugh :D
-
Sorry I couldn't make it in - I was diagnosed with an infected lung on Friday afternoon, so I am kinda reduced to bed rest and antibiotics to prevent pneumonia. See you all next time.
-
time for something immature, though needed i feel:
UK!!
UK!!
UK!!
UK!!
UK!!
i'm sure TO will invent some rules why this drinkup breaks his 'rules' ;)

i don't think it was me, i went to check out some film festival stuff, but not that one
-
Jonathon, post the picture with the fingers!!!
Such rudeness
Although I was either too pissed on a pint of shandy, or seriously need more practice at being vulgar
-
^ Nice one!
Hope you get well soon Elliot, sounds nasty.

Hope you're getting better Elliot, two weeks ago I had a infection on my leg, because of some small cuts I've on my feet... Man, the last time I had a fever that made me walk like a baby I was a child! :?
-

missed this message at the bottom there. get well soon elliot!
-
I had a great time - it was good to meet the real people behind the posts...
We did reach just about the limit of my drinking abilities - if I'd had another I'd have been in the same state as some of the sorry folks I encountered on the tube on the way home
Funnily enough I found the missus in a worse state than me when I got home - she'd decided to watch Mama Mia while I was out (I'd been making grumbling noises about its appearance near the dvd player so she assumes that I don't want to sit through it...), and she thought she'd have a nice vodka martini to go with it. It's not entirely clear what happened, but contributing factors have been identified as follows: a) she needs to learn that vodka martinis like we make them probably need to be consumed with some sort of food (the olives are not enough to soak up the alcohol), and possibly b) if there's only one of us present, one needs to make slightly less (eg half) as much as we usually do...
I'd definitely be up for another meet in London - I'd even brave the Intrepid Fox again, with its overpowering loudness of music and its distinctive fragrance in the water closets...
Sorry to hear about the lung infection Elliot - hope it clears up in time for Christmas.
-
well i am back up north (or above watford gap!!), i had a few moments of roughness earlier but i have been strangely hangover free today... must be the fresh london air
anyway, had a great time and want to thank gwem for putting me up and being my guide.. definately have to do this again at some point!... and no excuses from philly Q if we do
shame we didnt get noodle and elliot

Sorry guys, hope it was a good evening. :)
I feel quite the same Philly. Only Jonathan's seen my face. And hopefully doesn't remember it :D
But yes, I hope to be there next time.
Gwem, you look like that guy from The Fly movie, Jeff Goldblum
-
Yea, was cool to put some faces to the names, was a good evening :) We'll have to bring some guitars along next time!
-
Sorry I couldn't make it guys....
I was simply too shy to attend....NOT!
Unusually I was in Salisbury for a Xmas ball....
Glad you guys finally did it and I will be there next time. PDT_015
-
I was working in an office less than a mile away while you lot were enjoying yourselves. Unfortunately calling in sick was out of the question but I'll try to make it next time (hopefully there will be a next time).
-
I reckon some dates for 2009 should be suggested now -definitely up for meeting some of you lot.
-
Next one somewhere further North please!
