Has anyone ever come across these:

I wonder is they're a reasonable alternative to a Hotplate...
Mark.

My answer would be no.
I found them a bit of a disappointment when I used them with my Univalve.
Face it, your amp is designed for EL34s, 6L6s or whatever, usually it sounds best with those. Better get a hotplate. I heard good stuff about the bad cat one:

Very cool.
I've had a look around and I can't see any in the UK... have emailed the distributors.

i've just bought a set! they're sitting right in front of me now. i haven't had the chance to try them yet, i'm right in the middle of moving house, but i hope to get them in at the weekend. i'm trying them in a Genz Benz El Diablo, which currently has EL34's. i e-mailed THD to ask would the amp's pentode/triode switch still work ok with the yellowjackets and that evening got a reply from Andy Marshall, company president, himself! the answer was yes by the way.
i'll let you all know how it goes when i try them.

I've got a set that I've used and had good results.... and I prefer them to the hotplate, so I sold it. I guess it will depend on the amp.... but it's all subjective. Worth a go 'coz you'll be able to sell them without much (if any) financial loss.

I've seen the phrase "THD Yellow Jackets" many times, but never bothered to find out what they are. They certainly sound interesting.
