I'm off to see his re-arranged gig at the Academy in Manchester.
I think there are still tickets available as he had to cancel the gig the other weekend due to a bug.
I own zero of his records but like his stuff on youtube etc.
£20 a ticket seems ok I thought
Anyone else going?
-
Thought about it as I like his stuff, and he can certainly play, then decided not to. I was worried the gig would be full of guitar saddos!
Present company excepted of course ;)
-
Hey I am a guitar saddo and proud!
-
Another saddo going tonight, I had to go to London on the planned night so thought I was going to miss it. So I was chuffed to find it had been rearranged.
-
I saw him earlier in the year-it should be a great night-enjoy. I hope he does a storming version of Sloe Gin.
-
Saw him earlier this year in Frome - it was awesome! Hope it's a good one tonight!
-
Just got back from the show.
A lot of gigs get a bit dull if you don't know any of the songs. This wasn't one of them.
Great playing and a killer tone.
Interesting to note that:
I only noticed Joe use the rhythm pickup for about 2 seconds all gig.
It looked like he was just using 2 JCM 800s rather than his usual 4 amp set-up
He did some really good 3 note per string speed picking during an acoustic solo, pretty much like Paul Gilbert. I didn't really expect that.
He's a better singer than I thought as well
-
That $%ing rocked! He impressed the buggery out of me.
Yep, a pair of 800s, looked like a rented backline. His tech didn't seem too happy when he was putting his pedals together after the support band. It was that look of utter confusion that made me giggle when he was strumming away, firstly looking at the guitar, then the amp, then the pedals, then repeating for a while until he found the break in the signal chain.
The acoustic was a tad top endy for me, my hearing's buggered now. I though every time he hit it hard my wig would come off!
I could have done without the man with the face for radio and the support act.
-
Mike Sweeney was very enthusiastic
I hope I can bounce around like that when I'm in my 60s
-
What a nice guy Mr Bonamassa is. I asked him a question on his forum about his rig that night and he replied:
"The Two JCM 2000 DSL's are good for the fly in shows.. I use two of them into one cabinet set to stereo. I use the clean channel one set to crunch on set to clean and turned up to about 7 each with the gain at 10. I use a tubescreamer that is always on for the gain. I vary the tone by using the volume and tone controls on the Les Paul. Its a work out but it gets the job done. It sounds pretty close not as complex in the mids.. But Warren knows how to make it sound good always... it make its easy for me having him do the sound..
Joe B"
I can't see many other guitarist cover stars doing that
-
That is good. I had a couple of albums before I went to see him and was expecting a great night and was delighted to be entertained by a great guitar player and a decent singer and great arrangements of songs. I bought the live album recently and it evokes good memories of that night. He came across as a geniune guy too.
-
It's cool you got such a detailed reply Matt. though I'm surprised he has time to keep up with his forum.
-
Very nice to hear from you guys about the concert, JB is all out to keep the blues alive and well!!!
-
Off to see him again in April.
-
I have just downloaded his new album on Itunes-have yet to listen to it though.
-
I've got the album coming from Amazon.
Shobet - where's he playing? Local?

Wolverhampton, so not exactly local. Grab a ticket and we can share a ride.
-
I'll check it out.......
-
Saw him play in the NEC in October last year. As you guys have said before, very entertaing and a genuinely nice guy. Going to see him at the royal albert hall in may. Can't wait, should be a very good evening :D!
-
I might go to Wolverhampton to see him
I'll check stuff out in work next week
-
Oooh it's tonight and I'm all excited! Did anyone else manage to get tickets for the wolves gig?
-
Sorry mate - meant to drop you a note. Couldn't find any tickets, plus I've got to work late today too. Pants.
Hope it's a good one, I'm gutted I'm missing it!
-
Well that was good! I'm deaf again, ooooh what a tone! I took some pics, but I think most were cr@p. I'll put any good uns up tomorrow (if I have any).
Interesting collection of gear he has. Had his proper stuff and not the rented backline he had last time I saw him. I've hopefully got some decent pics of the backline and the planks. He even played a V, Gibson must really love him.
I also briefly bumped into his tech before the gig, nice guy.
-
Where's that jealousy smilie when you need it......
-
Sorry about the cr@p quality.
Oooh errrr!

The JP and the Axis are very suprising! Wonder when he uses them!
-
I think the Patrucci was used for the opener, the Ballad of John Henry. The Axis came out at the end. There was also a LP with a Bigsby which had a bit of a wobble.
-
Looks like he's ditched the old cabs, in favour of those Van Wieldens, and looks like he's got rid of the Two-Rock too, any ideas what the top left amp is?
I love his rig, it's such a cool idea, and sounds killer! :)

I think it's a Carol Ann. I believe they are going to release a very limited edition Joe Bonamassa 100 watt model.
-
Yep it's a Carol Ann jobby.

If you are interested in his tone he posts loads of gear on his own forum.
It's worth reading his own posts

There's a Shobet account on there already. ;)
-
I bought Ballad of John Henry CD at the weekend
Best album I've bought in a long time
-
I find it really cool that he takes the time to explain all his gear and the reasonings behind using them :) Dual amping is something that i've loved for a while, it's just expensive!!
Jon: it's such a good CD, has inspired me a lot since i got it :)

Hmm - I have some birthday vouchers left to spend and I was just wonering what to get....
-
That and Live from knowhere in particular are very good. In fact I'm off to listen to it again now
-
Yeah - the live album is great. My Dad asked me what I thought about Bonamassa so I suggested getting it. He loves it.
