The clips the link in that thread has sound pretty damn good to me :) I'm excited for this, sounds much better than Amplitube 2. Having to use their interface is shitee though, unless its actually a good interface. I just ordered a new UA-25ex myself though so I wouldnt want to bother with that :\

How interesting!
*Waits for it to come out*

Very nice. Very nice indeed.
I am, I must admit, VERY impressed by the AFXs clean and breakup tones. Not so much its br00talz.

interesting discussion on software piracy in that thread too ;)

Shame on you Gwem!
(You brought it up, I assume there must be a reason for that.....)

well in fact there is - not because i'm a software pirate though ;)
in fact i'm considering writing some music software privately and selling it. i already did some freeware apps which have been pretty popular. obviously piracy may kill any money i make from it, and that puts me off. so anyway - the thread is interesting to hear peoples perspectives.

Well, I have a tendency to copy stuff off the interwebs as a try before you buy. Not always, but sometimes. If I like it and use it I buy a copy. Aside from anything else (like paying for the work someones done, which I'm not forgetfull or disrespectfull of), you get patches and updates.
Thats my perspective.

My perspective is that I'm a sound engineering student, and I need a lot of software and plug-ins to get decent results. I can't afford a lot of it at the moment, so there's two choices;
i. crack the software and use it illegally and perhaps immorally
ii. don't crack the software and don't get to use it or learn from it
I figure since I'm a poor student and I can't afford the £3000 for Protel/Altium Designer, which I'll probably only use a few times for uni projects, then I'm not a customer and therefore by downloading it illegally I'm not actually ripping them off as they're not losing any business from me.

I hope they won't waste too much money on anti-piravy.
1. It doesn't work, it's never worked before, and probably never will.
2. Some people talk about how much money they've lost due to pirates, and I really sympathize with that, it feels rotten to see people getting your stuff for free.
But in reality if those people weren't willing to pay for your product, and there wasn't a crack available, they simply wouldn't have bought it. They would've just went with an inferior product that was cracked. So it's not lost money for you, it's actually free advertising.
I've downloaded tons of CDs and software when I was a poor student, but when I was employed, I went and bought all the ones that I actually liked and listen to. I left those in their package on a shelf, because I prefer the convenience of MP3s, I only bought them to support the artist.
I openly admit that if it's possible, I would download axepc and try it, and when I can afford it, I'll buy the rack unit.

Just like with music, companies should actually make a decent product for once and then maybe it'd be worth paying for.
Arobas Music (Guitar Pro) got my money with Guitar Pro 5, brilliant product and most importantly WELL PRICED.
Most of the time, i see software makers charging 4 to 5 times the amount i had valued the software at. I'd rather use freeware if it's available.
Reaper, The Gimp, Open Office...
They can spend all their time trying to make their software unhackable but, the people that do the hacking don't do it because they want the software, they want the challenge. So in effect, you're giving these people a wail of a time.
So great, the customer gets an inferior product yet again because some utter ejit once said piracy is lost money. Most people who download it just get it to see what it is like and mess around for a bit, usually forgotten and deleted and never used for anything serious. Very rarely does that happen, in fact the only case I've heard of personally was where a company was SOLD pirated software.
What happens more is though, say some people who work in 3D and Film that i know, they started out on pirated software and now own the software and work in the industry. Many were hooked after they downloaded the software, it inspired them and back then there was not a demo available. They got to use the full features, learn the software inside out and truly hone their skills to some amazing levels. Then they got work in the industry and have bought all the software they need.
If anything, piracy should force companies to make decent products, and weed out the weak.
If only it could do the same to the music industry :D

people will always buy cr@ppy music. :/

This is great, Axe is so good, everyone should have access to this awesome tool!!
Won't be able to achieve the 0.8ms latency of the hardware unit though :O(
-
The hardware has 0.8ms latency? Really? I just keep getting more and more impressed with this thing. Though the cool thing about a VST version of any effect is that you can record the track without it, apply it afterwards, and get (in effect anyway) 0ms latency.
