Hey people
I went to see Paul in Leeds last night and he was amazing, he put 1 note wrong all night, ONE! phenomenal playing and such a nice guy when meeting him at the end, he truly is an inspiration, here are the pictures

I asked him to do one of his cartoons and he happily obliged :D he then went off to eat a Chinese with his band :P
The only bad thing now is that i can't really change to Bare knuckle pickups now :( not sure weather i should even play it...
Anyway my real question is how do i seal this in the best way possible? i want this to never ware off.
Thanks
Anthony

I have no advice for you. I just wanted to say that is awesome! Paul Gilbert: Classiest Man In Rock? I think so.
-
Why can't you BK it?
-
I've decided i will use BKP's as im not looking to sell the guitar, want it for life :)

If you think it'll wreck the uniqueness then you can always get white open coils. OR a more expensive option - buy another PGM
-
If i had the cash I'd buy another but I'm a poor student :(
-
Ah. A student. Oh dear. Did you buy the PGM with your money? I bought two Ibanez with mine, lol..
-
Well I'm not a real student i live at home and pay no fee's but i still had to save up £800 of my own cash for it

Do you have the pen that he signed with?
I ask because it might say what type solvent is used in the permanent marker.
Also a sprayer would be able to test their spray against something drawn with the pen - other than whats drawn on your guitar.
The last thing you want is to dissolve the marker with the solvent in the paint to seal it in.
-
He used this :) and yes i still have it

Put it in a glass case, lying on a soft quilt and have it engraved as "Paul Gilbert touched this, $% yes."
-
Agree with the glass case idea, put it in there, make sure it's vacuum sealed,
and hang it up on the wall, and demand anyone who comes to your house to kneel, raise their hands and shout out "WE"RE NOT WORTHY"

+1.
you need to keep it out of the light if possible to really preserve it - it'll start fading pretty quickly.
I'd get it sealed pretty heavily, keep it in the case when you arent playing it and it'll last a long long time :)
-
keep it in the hardcase.. stick some masking tape on the side.. and write... paul gilbert once lived here
-
So you wouldn't change the pickups? Here is am with a miracle man right next to me
-
If it were me, I'd change the pickups and I'd play the guitar. No signature will last forever on a working instrument I expect - just get used to it. You know he's signed it, and surely that's what's important as long you're not planning to sell it.
-
Changing the pickup won't damage the signature. Just get it sealed but have the MM installed after the sealing process.

getting it sealing, and changing the pickups would seem to be the most logical indeed. absolutely play this guitar!
but just to congratulate you on your coup! paul gilbert is a cool guy. hes not a hero of mine, but i fully appreciate what you have there!
-
Just rung up simms custom shop and they will seal it for life and install my BKP's for £200

Am i supposed to now do this to my right hand?! I shook his hand last time, heheh.

I'm surprised you didnt think of it earlier!

Easy - cut your hand off at the wrist and get a nice glass box for it.

You could have a custom axe art person spray it on permanently. Kinda like when people get parts of their body signed by someone and then go and have it tattooed over.

But then it would still need to be clear coated on top on the artwork, so why not just clear coat over the real signature? :?
-
My 2 pence. Get it sealed, install the MM's and play it. If you want to preserve it then just play it to yourself, don't gig with it.
I have difficulty with the whole showpiece thing. On the one hand a great guitar should be preserved, but on the other a guitar is made to be played, and if it's not it seems a bit of a waste.
Good catch that man, play the sucker and be proud!

Just thought it would be better than risking the actual signature fading over time, make it a bit more permanent, and seal it with clear just to be on the safe side, hehe.

exactly! - I had my Les Paul signed by Peter Green many moons ago. it wore off the scratchplate years ago and I put it aside to preserve what was left of it (not sure where it is now).
-
I'm so jealous! I have a photo with Paul, but I'm just saving for a PGM at the moment. I'd love to hear your opinion of the guitar, especially the pickups as I wont be able to afford to change them for a loooong time.
