Title: Pickup set for a Horus
Post by: f.sardis on November 22, 2008, 12:25:24 AM
I am looking to replace the pickups on my Caparison Horus at some point after Xmas and I am hoping I can get some ideas here.
First of all is it possible to get a BKP with the weird baseplate the bridge pickup has on the Horus? I want to avoid drilling holes to the body to install a pickup with a standard baseplate.
Which pickup should I be looking at for bridge? I want something with tight bass and excellent clarity that has lots of highs and can give harmonics easily. Extremely high output does not interest me but I want something hotter than vintage.

Now for the single coil neck pickup the trend continues. Again I am interested in clarity and highs with tight bass. I am hoping something hot enough for metal solos.
I was thinking a Cold Sweat and an Irish Tour from the clips I have heard and judging by the specs and the descriptions.

Finally, will it be possible to somehow shield the single coil to protect it from interference and minimise the noise?

the cold sweat is awesome and pretty tight (a bit less tight than the PK and MM)
it's very hot, but I wouldn't say extreme
something between duncan sh-5 and sh-6 levels of output and voicing, but more organic and clear than both
tight, crunchy and bright

I wasn't too happy with the holy diver in my sg ( I loved it in my lp copy), so I tried an alnico 8 magnet and now it's pretty bright and tight without losing its alnico qualities

So no better ideas?

I am mostly curious whether or not BKP can make that special baseplate.

Have you asked Tim? He is the master. And if you have a question. You should just ask him. He always replies. Ask him about a possible rewind on your bridge pickup.

Miracle man, I would think.

There is a baseplate on the Sinner (Uber-Sinner!), so there's certainly precedent. As mentioned above: ask Tim!

Why not just do that and install a stock BKP? or as suggested, a rewind of your current pickup

Since you do have a Horus and all, WHY do you need 3 more frets?
