Title: If the hammer is the pikeys tool..
Post by: Spitfire on November 24, 2008, 03:02:57 PM
What is the pikeys effect?? reverb??

what are those effects that you think are just a bit neanderthal?? i know a lot of people see chorus this way.

i personally think anything layed on too thick seems too cheap.. like a cheap hooker with a face full of makeup.

chorus is awesome when used properly, though.

i dunno, it depends on the player i guess. i don't like that garage rock sound, though, if you ask me it's a bit rough-sounding, for want of a better word. not entirely sure if they use fx or not, though.

probably a cheap fuzz like the Big Muff - WAY overated imo.

chorus pedals get old VERY quick imo.  I've got one and it gathers dust 99% of the time - the other 1% is when I think "hmm, chorus, I wonder..." then realise why it spends 99% of the time in it's box.

Chorus is very cool, but it's uglier sibling, Flanger, is just so uncool... flanger is such a square, man. You just can't have a subtle flange effect (i'll just set the mix to 1 perce***SHHHHWWWWWOOOOOOOOOSSSSSHHHHHH****), proper pikey stuff if you ask me!

Stereo chorus, with 2 nicely spaced cabs, is almost in the sub-zero territory :)

OK, are you bar-stewards calling my hero Alex Lifeson a pikey?

If so, OUTSIDE.  NOW! :)

A cheap chorus sounds cheap, outdated and nasty.

A glorious chorus, like my MXR, is a thing of chordal beauty  :D

I'm probably out on my own here but I'm saying Wah-Wah pedals.
Never been keen on the wocka wocka box (except on 2 of Jimi's tracks)

I love effects, I think they're waay under used, I love what Korn done - like to make a trademark 'sound' from effects and such, I don't know many other bands that use them at all, more of synths and keyboards it seems. Guitar effects all the way! I wish I had this old video from college - we played Bliss by Muse, I done Piano when it suited and when the synth kicked in (well, when it does on the record) I had a 7 string Ibanez with the tone off on the bridge humbucker + dsitortion going to a whammy pedal on + an octave, instant synth! I'd transposed the synth to touchstyle and it ruled, I need to recover that vid...

Tremolo. Hate it. Had an old Vibro Champ and my dad used to play around with the tremolo. It's just, so, odd. :?
