Post by: stormbringer on November 24, 2008, 04:19:57 PM
hey,

i am buying a new amp soon, and my minds set on a spider valve, ya know the one that was helped designed by bogner, well anyway, i know its no real bogner but i just wanted to know what do you guys think about this amp head? and is there any better amp heads, that cost less than maybe 1000 USD

thanks

ah, ok. yeah, that's not gonna help with finding an amp which does both well... :(

i wasn't all that fussed on the spider valve i tried- it wasn't as bad as i thought it might be, but i wasn't exactly blown away either.

what about a kustom coupe? those are pretty nice, and quite versatile. would be worth a try, at least, i think the 36 watt combo is around $800 or so? i think there's a head version too (and a 72 watt version). a mesa express might be worth a try too, but a lot of people aren't too fussed on its higher gain tones (i was trying it with teles, so didn't really get a chance to try its higher gain tones)- if you could find an f-series (now discontinued), that'd be worth a try too- better for the high gain stuff, but maybe not just as versatile...

yeah. i've only tried the 36 watt combo version, though, so whether or not the 72 watt head sounds the same/similar, i don't know... :)

you can get a used 5150mkII for well under $1000 - that will do southern rock and thrash.

What about a Marshall JVM? Will do both excellent. No dig for Spider Valve here.
