and what are the other main tonal properties of whatever BK you think is the one of most clarity? Still deciding if I'm going with Nailbombs on my future 8...
-
Riff Raffs are the clearest ones I know. Alnico V strong-ish magnet and low-ish wind does this.
-
depends on what you're playing
low powered alnico paf pups in an 8 string through an unboosted messup poopie rectalfire on modern mode would be one bloody muddy mess

Messup poopy rectumfire
Anyway, having not used them all, I have no idea. The clearest I have used are Painkillers.
-
Well I'll be running a Diezel Herbert with a fair bit of distortion, lots of cleans too and lots of chords and leads mainly :D
-
VHII
?
-
if you're using high gain and u want clarity I'd suggest the Miracle Man for sure.
-
Of the contemporary BKPs, I'd say the Cold Sweat is the clearest, with the Painkiller in close second.

Soon we will have all BK Humbuckers mentioned in this thread ;-)

For an 8 string keep power very low, I'd go for black dogs.

Or mules, even

High out put pickups + super low notes equals super mush.
Get low ouput pickups, thus improving clarity, and let your amp do the work in the gain department - Which should be no problem with a herbert.
-
He's getting an 8 with a low B and high A though.
Any BK is fine for a low B. The A-Pig is the least desirable for it, but it still does the job just fine.

This came up in Roo's baritone thread (i think it was this one) and Tim recommended Black Dogs

And then we can start on the Missisipi Queens ! - That other remarkable item from the 'vintage' range, that can actually weigh in against the 'contemporary' pickups.

I don't think that MQs come in 7 or 8 string versions.
Which is a pity because I want a neck one for a 7!

Yeah I have black dogs in my baritone 6-string in drop-A tuning. VERY clear :)
