(http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/10/l_e5b52b70563043d099c3e4d96ec543d5.jpg)..so is definate project...pluged in..after buying fuse(original missing)not been powered in a while from a working mans club..in Wakefield now demolished....powers up, one channel sounds like i'm farting...almost to point were it sounds like overthetop noise gate
-
other is very quiet..but again after playing cuts out quick like a bad noisegate
-
Looks cool as hell, even if it sounds like shite! :)
-
Just needs a little help blow of 30years of cobwebs
-
Fxxin xxell get it fixed, this amp is the coolest thing since chocolate has been invented!
Imagine this would make your live rig, how koooooool ...
-
I'd imagine that replacing the filter caps wouldn't do any harm to the amp, then get the largest boost and fuzz pedals that you've got, and let her rip! :)
-
Is cool and lethal at mo...weird valves is el34, 12ax7 PI and ef86 pre amp valves
-
typical fare for those amps - I've got one myself, they sound shitee in stock form. however, the transformers are really nice quality, so rewiring the thing results in a very nice amp indeed.
I'd really not bother trying to tweak it - the preamp isn't geared towards good guitar tones and the filter caps are old and tired. Strip it down to the bare chassis and transformers then start again.
You've got a nice pair of yellow-label Mullard EL34s in there, so you've got a headstart in the tone stakes right there. the two ECC83s and the EF86 mean you've got plenty options to work with - a pentode (EF86) front end sounds very nice indeed as you'll know if you've ever played a Matchless DC30. You also have a GZ34, so some tasty rectifier sag is available too.
You could build a crackin' JTM45 from that - perfect platform (better than the Kelly PA amp you have)
-
Damn and it cost me £25
-
Awesome buy!!!!! Even if it doesn't sound great it's better value and prettier furniture than Ikea.
-
lol is it from brookhouse?
sounds like a good project to be fiddling with
-
The main question is does it make good toast?
-
Brookhouse..that sounds familiar
-
Oh yeah don't do toast at mo..but could be new added feature
-
leave it on standby for 3 hrs then put some bread on the grill at the top for 20mins..
$%ing damn straight it'll make toast!
-
With the caps in at mo put on for about 10mins *L*
-
very barbrella! great object
-
yeah could be good
-
ITS ALIVE!!!
Powers up have deafened my self(may have been a bit loud for the house through a 4x12)...neads a lot more work to tell what main bits are worth keeping 7 caps, 1 resistor so far and choke set up different is effecting output vol I think as way is wired at mo.
Don't sound too bad
-
the man is an electronic genius!
-
Was thinkin more a bumbling idiot
-
So replaced all .1 caps, electrolytic where melting..so there gone, 470k leaky as hell..gone...removed extension power feed, and added jack plug socket for speaker.
And its alive..recorded with the cr@pest mike in front of my 4x12..and me just randomly hitting guitar...gives an idea of the sound....no mixing, reverb fx etc..just me bad playing straight into amp, amp not far off 3/4 (mic was cr@p had to have up loud...neighbors out) so just breaking up a little.
But it works....now have lots of mods to do...from moving vol position(is before first gain stage straight from input) to changing output from linear to pentode
-
Sounds good mate!
-
yeah more bass in real life...was a cr@p shure mic......am liking the ef86
-
Here's latest mod(still cr@p playing and cr@p mic..doesn't show bass well)
-
You can hear the improvement in tone quite clearly between the 2 clips
What's the budget ran up to with the mods?
-
About £15 so far..have a very nice amp tech helping me otherwise wouldn't be happening
-
Sounding good, if it's still running hot then you should use it at the next rehearsal... We could all stand around and keep warm...
