Is this an old tube, or a modern "replica ?

A true Mullard valve will have an etched code on it. Not sure what Mullard's code for  a 6V6GT is (the first 3 or 4 digits), but the last 3 or 4 digits should start with a "B" or an "R" if it is a true British-made Mullard.

Mullard made a lot of tubes (all with the codes on) which ended up being labelled for other companies.  Equally, a lot of non-Mullard tubes have been faked, and relabelled with a Mullard logo. You have to trust the etched codes here.
In fact ALL my own Mullards are labelled either "RFT" or "Tungsram". The only tube I have that is labelled Mullard is actually an RFT !

If the tube tests good and it's a genuine Mullard then it will be excellent.

That means nothing I'm afraid. All you need is a silk-screening machine to put whatever labels you want on a "nice" russian or chinese valve ......and there is PLENTY of that going on !

As you say, you'll just have to try them out. Have a look for etched codes when you can though.
