Title: NP(edals)Day!

Liverpool Guitar Show + cash in pocket = :D

I read the review of the First Fuzz in Guitarist Magazine, and as I haven't got a decent fuzz I was tempted.  Tried one out and had to have it.  I'm not a massive fuzz guy, but if you're going to have one in the arsenal you get a good one right?  It's a good one  :)

I tried the OD Special just becuase it was there and ended up loving that too, so that's now on my pedalboard replacing three separate stomps (Maxon OD-9, BB Preamp and Guv'nor).  Very versatile, compact and works great into a clean/lightly crunched amp.  Perfect!

Very nice,

I was so tempted to go to that guitar show too.  Looks like it saved me some money.

Ah, very interested in the fuzz. Give more details when you've lived with it a bit, pls.

Will do.  It's a Vintage Fuzz Face replica - Dennis Cornell used to build the old Dallas-Arbiter ones back in the day so he knows them pretty well.  Carbon comp resistors, the correct (and matched) germanium transistors etc.  It sounds proper Hendrix/Wolfmother  :)

I like the look of those :D
Did you try TM Boost, make up the full set?

Nah, the TM boost had been sold.  They only had one of each!

I used the Overdrive at rehearsal tonight and it's staying on the board.  It doesn't do very heavy gain that well as it mushes up when you boost the red channel.  However the green, green boosted and red channels sound superb so 3 out of 4 ain't bad!

It's a very natural sounding pedal, and very flexible for different gain levels.  Important for me in my band.  It sounds very fizzy at low amp volumes though - this is one of those rare breed of pedals designed to sound good at gig levels!

Agreed, stunning - especially the overdrive. I just love that naked metal look (no pun intended).

Mmm, that overdrive looks great! Hopefully somewhere (perhaps vintage and rare) will have it so i can give it a try.

They've been around for a few months now. I reckon more shops will order some since the Guitarist reviews did
their bit for public awareness.

I actually popped into Vintage and Rare today, and they had the TM Boost, so i tried it, but it wasn't really my kinda thing, though the guy did say that it really needed to push the amp. Tried it through a Blackstar HT-5, which i didn't really like, didn't try the overdrive channel, but the clean sounded naff.... until i kicked in the ZVex Woolly Mammoth :)

Dave,

Now you have lived withthese pedals for a little while, how are you finding them? Are they as good asyou  first thought or better or worse.

Cheers

The Fuzz I haven't used so much, but I did use it at home today and it still sounds as good  :)

The Overdrive Special is on my pedalboard and I gigged it a couple of weeks ago, and will be doing again a week on Saturday.  I'm still enjoying it, but it doesn sound its best into a loud-ish amp and with a bit of breakup.  It's not a pedal to go into a clean amp at home volumes.

You're welcome to bob round and try them if you want?

Hi Dave,

Cheers for the offer.  It was more just out of interest how the cornell pedals are now the honeymoon period is over.  To be honest it would only be for home use at the moment so the overdrive special is probably not for me.
I got the  buying bug at the moment though  im trying to resist geting anything and just save up for maybe another amp.  Marthin is not making me keeping my money any easier when he selling his hellbender either.

Thanks again

Gareth
