I had a bridge Cold Sweat lying around, so I decided to try it in a Gibson Les Paul (mahogany body + maple top) through a Diezel Einstein.
Comparing it with the stock pickup (Burstbucker #2) the CS sounds much bigger and fatter. It excels on heavier stuff. It feels like a wall of sound crashing down while being smoother, meaning less spikey.
But for some things like AC/DC or ZZ Top it seems that so much fatness is a drawback if that makes any sense.
I can't seem to get the same definition or harmonic content as I do with the stock pickup.
So I would like to try a BKP which is more in the vein of the Burstbucker #2.
I don't want a vintage specific pickup, but rather something all-around that can go from AC/DC to Metallica, but no need for much heavier. No need for any softer either, since I usually play that in the neck pickup (Mule).
I'm leaning towards Holy Diver. I read that it resembles the JB which I really like in Les Pauls.
Any suggestions ?

I think the HD would be too fat.
I'd say a Riff Raff. Nice and clear, and tight enough to cover the range you're after. It's the compromise choice.

What about the Rebel Yell? surely that would have more cut and be better at both heavier stuff as well as the crunch for AC/DC.
I agree that the HD is way to fat and smooth though

Rebel Yells.

I think that even the Rebel Yell may sound fatter than the Sweat in a LP, cause it's a full midrange pickup
for ZZ Top and AC/DC I'd definitely recommend Riff Raffs over any other pickup
you can always use some kind of mid booster or overdrive for heavier stuff
a good equalizer before the amp can make a huge difference
I use a vintage Maxon equalizer just for a slight mid boost and it pushes the amp really hard
I bet it could turn any low powered pickup into a metal monster, when needed

I agree with Twinfan and Eric. I don't think The RY would be any less fat than the CS, and from all I've read the HD would be fatter again.
You definitely want a lower output pickup. Riff Raff, as suggested, or maybe (shot in the dark, without having tried one myself... ) VHII?

The only problem with the Riff Raffs is that you might have to change your set-up, especially if you're not used to low output pickups.
I'd still recommend the Rebel Yells; it's vintage/modern and goes easy from classic rock to the heavier stuff, extremely versa-
tile.
I think the VH2 would be too thick/raw in the lows and the HD would be far too fat.
It's your choice.
