Hey, just finished tracking the guitars for one of my bands songs. The working title was " Dez Interesting " and until vocals are put on it, im pretty sure it will stay that way.
The distorted guitars on the left speaker is the other guitarist. He is playing an RG 1570L with evos ( he will get some bkp soon, dont you worry ) . My distorted guitars are in the right speaker. I am playing my Ibanez RGT2020 with nailbombs. Most clean parts where done on my guitar as well as lead parts.
The mix is a bit weird for now, but your input would be appreciated whether it be recording techniques, playing or arrangement.
Cheers
Dez
Ps. The guitars dont have any processing on them, i didnt really feel they needed it.....yet

Great track and excellent duel melodies, I think it is fantastic. what did you use to record it?
-
Nice mix of tones, lovely arrangment with some nice textural ideas. As for the recording, I'm only listening to it on my laptop which isn't ideal,it sounds great, obviously with vocals it'll all pull together as a song but the guitar tones are great and there's nice variety in them too.The only thing I'd do is pull the guitars up in the mix a touch as the drums are right at the front but that's probably my cr*py laptop  .
Despite what anyone says, there is some really good music coming out in the players room and besides displaying great tone, it's showing some great guitar playing too. 8) It's really good for me personally to hear what's being done with the pickups and the tones everyone is creating with them.

That sounds great dude, love it !!

Allowing for my computer speakers I would agree with Tim, the drums are a bit too up front- the quitars dont need any treatment as far as I can tell- but you haven't mixed it so you probably know what you want. I loved the track. Great stuff!

Loved it! The playing, the tone, the arrangements, everything! Whats your bands name? and do you have a website? Yours is a band I'd love to follow from demo to record deal.

Nice one Dez,
You can really hear your Opeth influence, a little bit of Sikth in there too! I like the bit before the solo and right at the end the most, very cool.
Awesome tone and recording as always. Look forward to hearing more from you!

Nice, has a very cool early Maiden meets mellow Ride The Lightning era Metallica vibe going on with the slow > harmony bits 8)
In fact, it reminds me of some of Deaths stuff, with the arrangements and that....

loved that song! Great playing and tone. I wanna see your band live, seems like you kick some ass :D
The only thing I dont like about your playing as that it makes me feel cr@p as youve been playing less than me and are better than I'll ever be

Hails Man
thatīs a GREAT example of the nailbomb CLEAN and Lead work... wingle note too
.
hails and great WORK.
j.p
nice nice nice cleans !
and the rhythm section sounds like opeth(orchid and morningrise, musically and tone wisely)

Very Very nice tone!!!!!! You can really play too!! I'm stuck between miracle man, cold sweat, and now nailbomb. I think i might have to go for nailbomb in the end. they seem to be very well suited to ibanez
-
Sounds very complex riff wise ect! Very good, I bet it's a job remembering it all. Sounds very well played! Great tones too. :D
-
Excellent track Dez, nice and tight playing from both of you too!
If you bring the panning on the guitars in a bit there'll be more focus and power in teh bottom end - Tim showed me that trick.....I think that's why the drums jump out a bit - there's a hole in the middle that the drums are filling. Once the bass and vox go in it'll be a nice mix, well done!!
Let me know if you get a gig in Leeds!

Hey guys thanks very much for all the replies. It means alot to us as a band to know people are enjoying our songs.
Everyone's comments about mixing are very appreciated and will help alot when we are rerecording the whole track!! ( AHHHH ) Both me and the other guitarist feel we can give a better performance to tight things up and make sure we are recording at constant levels.
To answer a few of the questions.
Recording gear we used was very simple. Just used an Mbox, pro tools, Line 6 POD Xt Pro and some sampled drums from sample tank. The distorted tones i feel sometimes could of been a bit crunchier in areas, so these are things we will be concentrating on next time.
As for the band name....we dont have one as of yet and is really fustrating for the whole band. We used to be called Omega Child ( we choose the name when we were 15, please dont hit us ) Since then we played the Mean Fiddler then broke up ( doh ! ) but was a big change for the band musically among other things.
I hope we can come up with a name soon and put some more tracks up.
As for Johnny Macs comment, yes sometimes it is very hard to know where we are in a song, but is getting easier with time.
Thanks again
Dez

It's always tempting to hard pan guitars L and R but it actually weekens the tone, it's something to do with phase.Keeping them at 10 and 2 o'clock keeps them spread but focused, more up front in the mix.

:D Just to add my vote for great track, loved it !! hope you`ve got a good singer to do it justice !! [ if we had a headbanging icon this is were i`d use it !! ]
liked the tone spread you used of the Podxt nice choice. if you want to get a bit more Crunch out of it turn the gain down a bit [ sounds crazy i no ]but it helps to get more impact on recordings as gain can help cover these things up. Don`t over do the rerecording situation otherwise the track could start to sound sterile. Right now it sounds honest ! :D

Whoa, whatever the $% happens at about 1:20, do more of it. Awesome.
