OK, i think i mentioned somewhere around here that i went to see my mates band on friday night.. and the guitarist is now playing something rather interesting
He sent me this weird strat copy that had the worst neck i have ever seen... i wish i took pictures of it because it was awfull. anyway - obviously a new neck was in order so i made him a fairly standard maple and rosewood neck with rosewood headplate and a few aluminium inlays as well. he was going to get a mate to paint it and then give it me back for assembly, but the bugger did it himself in the end:
here is how it went out with the new neck:

i think he's done it pretty well, the scratchplate is not the cheap plasticy diamond plate... he cut it out of an old staircase and its about 6mm thick!!
i told him to get a bareknuckle so he went with a warpig and it really did sound awesome in the band setting. I will plug the band as well

That looks cool.
Are there any disadvantages of a metal scratchplate? Can it cause any electrical issues, static or the like?

nice :D

Cool!

I like the neck... but not crazy about the rest of it.

That's hilarious!
Full of character.

i suppose really its just extra shielding but i dont think you would get away with it using a magnetic metal... might be interesting to A/B it with and without the plate at some point
Ed's pretty much switched to using this most of the time... and his maverick was pretty nice

+1.
If that's the guitar used in the songs in their myspace profile i think it sounds great ! But it looks....weird... :| It's like a bunch of people contributed into the making of this but noone had seen what the others did ! So they just went on meshing different styles into one guitar...i like the first picture better :) He should have kept that finish. And with the warpig it would have looked awesome !! Simple and clean !

nice, i like what hes done with it, very individual

Looks cool :) It's likely that the scratchplate isn't conductive at all, so it wouldn't cause any problems, still worth checking though.

I think the myspace stuff was done with his maverick... he had an endorsement deal with them but i dont suppose thats worth anything at the moment. It is a pretty nice guitar as it is but i think he will be BKP'ing it at some point... till then this one is being used and should be on the new recordings. he asked me to copy the maverick neck shape, which i think i got close on but not 100% but luckily he prefers mine... oil finished as well so its really sleek
it is a bit of a mash up but i suppose thats what i like, its quite reminisent of what my first squier strat ended up like actually, but plays and sounds much better!! The new neck was done before the body was painted but i am not sure when the diamond plate scratchplate was concieved

Haha I really like that - it's got metal all over it! :D
Looks like another fine neck, too, Wez :)
