Title: Fun and games at Nolly's House
Post by: bulb on December 12, 2008, 04:14:37 AM
So im in the UK for a little bit and my good friend Nolly was kind enough to let me stay at his house in Bath and as you will be able to see in the pictures, we have been having our fair share of fun.

Anyways i have spent some quality time with both his stunning Blackmachine B2 loaded with a set of Cold Sweats (which has incidentally become one of the greatest guitars i have ever touched in my life)
and his Diezel VH4 rig, which although isnt quite what i would go for in terms of a Periphery rig, is pretty $%&#ing amazing nonetheless.
And then Pete has also left his Invader rig here, so that im covered Djent-wise!
Unfortunately Pete isnt in any of these pics as he not only broke but dislocated his ankle yesterday and is now in the hospital waiting for the necessary surgery!

But i thought i would share some pics!

That's amazing! I love your stuff by the way, not usually my scene, but the songs you have live on youtube are amazing, and the new track with vocals on myspace is fantastic. Let us know when your album is ready!

Oh and thanks for making me want a tele with piledrivers now. My wallet loves you.

:D

Nice one dudes, periphery and red seas fire are imo two of the great up and coming tech bands, nice to see you all getting along :>

Nolly though, you're such a slut. First you're getting it on with Dez, and now Misha? This jsut won't do!

It's been a great few days! Really happy with how the pics came out, here are a few extras that didn't make it into the OP:

The sheer insane djentiness of the Piledriver'd Tele was shocking to discover. It sounded immense in the room, and was a bizarre sight.

For us uninitiated, could you please explain "djent" or "djentiness".  Come on, I'm 42 years old, I have no idea what this means !   8)

I believe it was a term that originated from the Meshuggah forum which is an onomatopoeia of tight, heavily distorted and downtuned palm muted chords.  Popularized by His Djentness, Bulb, and the League Of Extraordinary Djentlemen A.K.A. Periphery. PDT_003

As a 36 year old unreformed metaller who isn't exactly "down with the kids", I'd wondered what djent/djenty meant too.  Thanks for the definition :)

Sounds like a lot of fun was had, lol at the tele clip.  BTW, I really like the periphery stuff I've heard - especially Icarus Lives & Ow my feelings - hope they'll be on the album if/when it appears (& which I will definitely buy...)

Just to clarify on the djent thing (though Lazy_Mcdoesnothing is spot on), if you start chugging a powerchord on the low strings with a typical metal sound, you'll get a "djun djun" sound or thereabouts. Boosting the upper mids a lot turns the "djun" into "djent". You can accentuate this by adding an extra fifth above the powerchords and making sure all four strings are hit when you pick. This kind of tone also makes for a very recognisable, almost twangy sound when you hit low notes on a 7 or 8 string guitar (or detuned 6).
