Title: Installed Cold Sweats today
Post by: hunter on December 14, 2008, 08:53:40 PM

Put the used set of cold sweats I purchased recently into my trusty Hamer Sunburst - all mahogany with Floyd Rose.

Woohoo, these are seriously nice pickups. They got a nice, hard, stringy edge to them, but at the same time they gel well with the mahogany tone, I get very thick yet articulate lead tones. It's awesome for 80s dream cream as well as atmospheric tremolo picking with lotsa FX.

I also re-changed speakers in my ported 2x12, so now I run Guitar into Axe FX, into stereo full state amp, one side into Bogner 4x12 (4x Vintage 30) and the other into the 2x12 (G12-65 and Greenback). It's a very BIG sound, and the ceramic Cold Sweats cut through this wall of sound very nicely.

Gotta post some clips soon, it's really a very different sound from my other guitars, which are more on the vintage (hot) side.

The neck pickup has a lot less output, and it's just the perfect Guns n'Roses tone, yeah I know wrong magnet and all, but never heard Sweet Child o'mine more convincing than today! Real cool set this one...

That was quick work!  :)

They're great, aren't they?  Looking forward to hearing the clips later.

Yep, the Hamer is a difficult guitar as it's a big slab of mahogany with a Floyd, so nothing you would associate with lively, transparent acoustic tones. But it appears that the CSs are a great match, as they bring out a dark and heavy beast where it's just fun to up the gain and wobble that whammy bar.

The recording is a quick shot and not really close to the tones I get in real, as I used 2 mics, which I never did before, I struggled to balance them out (amp and monitors in same room, not ideal really), but guess you get the idea from it.

I've got a Cold Sweat bridge coming VERY soon - got a card from Royal Mail today so it's got to be the CS; can't wait.

I love it :) The Gary Moore bit was especially awesome.
