Mine would have to be a pocket pod... hated everything about it. The build quality, interface design, sound quality.

Hands down a Kramer Imperial. Sounded OK and looked cool, but the bridge was positioned incorrectly and it couldnt be intonated!

Ah, broken
I rather like the tonelab, its not bad, for a modeller.

A brand new Renault Clio 172 Cup that had paint defects  I had to hire a solicitor to get my money back....
Oh, you mean guitar gear?
I would say the Gibson Les Paul Standard I bought in the late nineties ( sorry Grandad, I know I bought it with the money you left me  ). It got traded in for *that* Tele earlier this year :D
-
BC Rich Warlock (I think bronze series) the block of the floyd rose was made of a shiteetatic soft and breakable thing, everytime I was changing strings, it brake a little (in the holding-pin of the springs)...
This was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying that I don't a floyd rose for the rest of my life (well, sometimes I think in, but I've fear)
-
Feline Tabby.
(Ok, kidding, please don't kill me Johnathan.)
Peavey Rage 258.
Not that bad really, but not a good solid state amp. Been lucky with the rest of my gear.
(The Feline was actually my best value for money buy)
-
Fender Classic Player '50s Stratocaster - just knew I hated it the moment I took it out of the box, and sent it back immediately.
-
Without doubt it was the Line 6 JM4 Looper. Edit - pretty much the same as Philly in that the minute I got it out of the box (and played it for a few secs) I just knew it was going straight back!
Strangely enough I do like the pocket pod that was commented on earlier!

Boss DR880 Drum machine.
I had a little Boss 4-track (BR482 IIRC), the built-in drums sounded really good but with limited flexibility (you could only program the patterns they'd built in, no way to make new beats/fills etc). So I assumed that their dedicated Drum Machine would make sounds as good as the built in module on the recorder with the added ability to make patterns.
I assumed wrong. What a total pile of sh1t. A £300 total pile of sh1t (as if insult really needed adding to injury ). The BR482's drums sounded 1000 times better than what came out of the DR880. Sadly the place I bought it from went bust so I couldn't return it.
& to cap it all, I couldn't get the MIDI synchronization to work  so even if I can coax a tolerable sound out of it, it won't be precisely in time with the click track.
My 2yo son sometimes plays with it, I might move it into his room because I certainly don't want to see it anymore...
-
A Jackson JS30RR. It just feels like cr@p. Probably cause of the die-cast stock shite on it and it's neck heaviness.
-
A Dod multi effects..traded for a Boss ME5.....was a while ago..or the al600 (http://www.angelogalloguitars.net/prodimg/al-600LTD.jpg)
-
..or the al600
Was it that bad? I quite like the look.

And me.
And even with the specs it has:
set neck construction 24.75" scale mahogany body (thinline body style) 3-piece mahogany neck ebony fingerboard spade inlays EMG 81 active pickups volume and tone controls w/3-way toggle chrome hardware Sperzel locking tuners TonePros locking bridge w/string-thru-body white binding on neck and headstock 24 XJ frets
-
Looked ok...not as pretty in person...liked the inlays, was a good neck..pickups...emg's (again what was I thinking) and was so light..they said it was mahogany...but felt more like balsa
-
Great for emo..but no bass

Yeah, I like light guitars but I think sometimes they can be too light, or the timber not dense enough. My Edwards V is a bit like that.
-
yeah then compared it to the back breaker Gib sg I have
-
NOS Brimar ecc83 LABELLED 'microphonic'
Luckily enough it was just a guy selling off his Dad's collection, he did a swap pretty quick and paid me the postage as well (£1.14), which actually made my day.

My ESP SRC-7 was a pretty horrible buy, that thing just had no tone at all, the weakest sounding guitar I've ever played.. and apparently, they are all like that. It was so bad I thought it was a lemon.. sold it in less than 10 days ahah
-
Digitech GSP2101 - I have a twin tubes which sounds great, I thought the 2101 would be a more powerful version of the twin tube with more effects, etc. Instead it is a wimped out version. Yes there are more effects, but the overall sound is cr@p.
-
Vox snake charmer compresser. Might me ok for snake charming but not ok for music. Boss cs3 compressor blew it away and I do not like that much.

-
Music man axis. It just doesn't get on with me. I think I'll have to get rid of it soon as its just sitting around collecting dust.
-
toss up between my marshall avt100 or my kramer striker
-
Axis never sure about them always glad bought my Bluesbird over one though

I think it was - strange as Guitarist gave it a gold. Maybe I didn't give it enough time! I do always trust my first instincts though - if it doesn't impress from the box it probably isn't going to be a keeper.
-
Ibanez RGT42, lovely guitar, but that bridge just made it completely unplayable...
-
Matamp Minimat
what was it you didnt like?? ive always been interested in one, but never tried one

St Anger. I dont even know why I bought it.

Matamp Minimat

I just thought it sounded 'uninteresting'. Was looking for a low wattage valve amp which would give a good 'power amp' distortion when run flat out - it just didn't. Tried changing valves - tried several guitars.. some were better than others (SC seemed to sound better than humbuckers) ... tried several pedals which seemed to help (particularly Xotic BB). I much prefered the sound of my Cornford Hurricane/Hellcat at very low volume compared to the Minimat flat out. I'm sure there are many Minimat fans around (and many Cornford haters) - it just didn't do anything for me.
If I was in the market for a low wattage amp now I would go for the Blackstar HT5 - sounds much more what I was looking for.

Well, I have yet to receive either my Bodenhamer Bloody Murder or any word of its current build status, or indeed any contact from Joe Bodenhamer for the past month or more. I ordered this in May this year. Seriously unimpressed, personal circumstances allowing or not, that's just bad form. I reckon I won't see my cash or pedal. :/ Prospective buyers beware.

A Westfield Telecaster copy, it has the most comfortable neck profile I've ever played but, the frets aren't seated right, the neck is squint, a screw on the back of the heel has a sharp edge that scratches your palm, all the scratchplate screws were crooked, the bridge rusted into a lump within a month, the tuners wobble and (this being the most annoying) the pickups don't work any more.
I'm thinking this isn't going to be a £100000 classic in 50 years
oh and the lead socket fell off, I can't even give the darn thing away
-
Mine was an Ibanez RG470 - a purchase I didn't think through. Hated the neck - too thin, too flat, cr@p fretwork, bridge was a piece of cr@p, the pickups sucked, the setup was foul and the whole thing was neck heavy. It was, without a doubt, a complete dog. I've played other Ibanez guitars since and come to the conclusion I was very unlucky. Most have been well-made, if not entirely up my street, but I bought a POS.
-
Without a doubt, line6 pod. All those sounds and not one that doesn't sound synthetic
-
Worst buy recently was a s/s/h set of bkps, the pickups were great but I sold the guitar a few days later...and the buyer asked if I had the original pups

That's gotta hurt.
-
Fender Lite Ash Strat,
sounded tinny despite a set of BKP holy divers and there was a fret buz that I just couldn't get rid of, even after a new nut and full set up, grrr, I am still pissed about that.
-
Fender Lite Ash Strat. BKP'd it and everything, still sounded like shite. Loved the look of that guitar but never happy with the tinny sound.
Traded it in for my explorer (best buy ever)
-
Epiphone entry level explorer, not the korina type. Complete impulse buy, tried it through a line 6 spider and thought it sounded great. Got it home, neck heavy beyond belief, terrible sound, terrible feeling neck. 300 quid down the drain.
I still have it kicking around in one of my cuboards, i've thought about selling it on, but i just dont know who would be foolish enough to buy it (aside from myself in the first place that is).

In which case, you should go back in time and sell it to your younger self.
Or maybe you already did...
-
Mine would def be the indyguitarist "The pinnacle" pedal.
It was advisertised as being the closest to the brown sound you could get in a pedal. It just sounded cr@p. It had loads of knobs and switches but you could only really set the pots to one setting, as each pot seemed to rob something from the other one - so regardless of where they were set you had to "balance them" which resulted in the same cr@p sound, and for £150 odd pound it compared less than favourably to a secondhand unmodded SD1 which you can pick up for about £15.
Shortly after buying the pedal the guy put a disclaimer on his every changing website stating that it didnt take to all amps !
Well i tried it with 2 different marshalls, a 5150, Mesa boogie triple rec, vox, hughes and kettner attax 100- sounds shitee through each and every one of em!

nevertheless, i hope for your thoughts on your pocket pod, when it arrives...

I bought a certain acoustic guitar that had a "name" on it (the first and only time I have ever allowed myself to be seduced by a name) and it was not a pleasant guitar and when I came to my senses I cursed myself. I still have it but never enjoy using it.
-
A Gibson Les Paul in the (bad era) mid 80s - hours or paper round and backroom shop work and what a pile of shiteEEEEEE it was (it didn't help that I discovered I hate Les Pauls) - sold it and bought a Fender Esprit and a Sessionette in a sale. Still have both of them today.
-
M-Audio Black Box - what a POS!!!
-
M-Audio Black Box - what a POS!!!
what even after the v2 upgrade?
-
Mine was a SWR Mo' Bass Head and the cabinet they sold with it. It was muddy, cr@ppy sounding and the effects were totally digital sounding and sterile . Drove like 500 miles round trip to buy it too! Just not my type of sound... Back to my Marshall SLP 100 or Traynor YBA1 for bass...

A Japan RG550 EX.
I thought it make me a better soloist. Wrong thought. It took me embarrassingly long to realize that
a) superstrats don't agree with my general body shape somehow (in the higher frets)
b) superthin & flat necks are not for my hand
c) I don't need a tremolo at all.
d) stock Ibanez pickups are cr@p and you always end up replacing them (= extra costs)
I sold it after almost an entire year in which I had extensively played it at band practice. It had acquired quite some scratches till then and all in all I lost quite a lot of money in the deal.

i had the exact same guitar (in silver) and i loved it, but the neck warped so i got rid... i miss it sometimes.. but i dont think it would suit me nowerdays.

Mine was an Ibanez USA Custom RG. It had a really nice Music Of The Spheres graphic (a rare graphic from a rare line of guitars) but the playability and tone were god awful.
The entire guitar was dirty, everything metal was a bit rusty and smelled funny. The bridge was screwed beyond belief, even after fitting a better condition Edge Trem and locking posts, it still didn't stay in tune. The pickups were cr@p (even the Paf Pro).
I found out after a week of having it that the neck wasn't the original neck. It was a RG750 neck, not a USA custom neck like it was advertised.
I sold it in the end luckily I didn't lose out on too much money.
If I had played it at the shop, I wouldn't of bought it. But I bought it from Guitar Village over the internet just on looks alone. I really regret buying it.
I sold a really really nice limited production RG for it, biggest mistake ever. I just hope I can find one again some day.

Damn. You've reminded me of something even worse than my answer (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=15270.msg199287#msg199287) on page 1 :(
Duncan SH5 Custom.
Had one installed in my trusty Gibson FV in 1995, in the days before I realised that it was a fairly simple thing to change pickups. It was/is an utterly appalling pickup - replace the word "dark" with "weedy" in your post above & it would exactly describe my experience with it. Made a nice guitar sound hideous. I hated it with a passion, but was too stupid/lazy/tight to just bin it for an SH6 Distortion (which I've always liked BTW). Once I discovered BKP, it got a Miracle Man instead & now it's a nice guitar to listen to again... :)

I do it manually (not aware there's a simple shortcut):
Find the post you want to link to
Right-click its link -> properties (notice how each post in a thread has its own link)
Copy the URL to clipboard
Hit reply or quote where you want to reply.
Type [ u r l = (without the spaces of course!)
Paste the URL, then ]
Type answer (or whatever word you wnat the link to display)
Type [ / u r l ] (again, without the spaces)

Another epic fail of mine came from an overseas ebay buy. I bought what I thought was a lawsuit Ibanez SG Custom. Turns out that only the neck and pickups were from that era. The body was some cr@ppy knockoff or maybe even homemade. It plays and sounds great, but I am donating it to a local charity. I have other better guitars and it's nice to do something to help others.
G.
-
^ Sure is. I gave a epi away to someone once. I was never going to play it so why not.
-
I bought a peavey V-type (ebay) hoping that for a korean made guitar it would be good and help me learn to shred. I played it for around a year tricking myself into thinking it was really cool before realising that my I actually prefer my old Epi SG. I even bought miracle men for it which made it a bit nicer.
But the worst thing about it was that the top string was pretty much unplayable because the nut or bridge didnt line up properly and it kept slipping off the neck and made me look like a completely shitee player!

I do wonder if it had been wired wrongly - either by the tech or worse still at the factory.
Reason I say is for it to sound so weak and the SH6 to sound ok is strange without the miswire
A bit like finding a Cols Sweat thin and the Miracle Man just fine
But glad you found joy with the BKP in the end in the V

Well, it couldn't have been the way the pickup was wired into the guitar - when I put the MM in I just did a straight swap of the connections & the MM sounds like an MM should.
But perhaps there was something wrong with that particular SH5 - I also got a Full Shred (SH10?) neck & it totally overpowered the bridge. I was so disappointed I actually stayed late in the office to phone SD about it. The guy I spoke to told me "No WAY should a Full Shred neck have more power than a Custom bridge". I never followed it up though....
Anyway, you'll meet my FV one day - I'm going to put a VHII neck instead of the FSn :)

This exactly why I've been reluctant to get a CS bridge BTW...

Damn, you must've been unlucky :( I love my KV2. Actually, I love pretty much anything with Jackson on the headstock that was made in either Japan or US :)
Or was it because you found you didn't get on with the shape once you'd had a chance to play it?

Lots of things. :P The neck felt uncomfortable (hated the finishwork done on it), didn't like the Duncans on it. Plus the shape was awkward to get used to sitting down, yeah. You live, you make mistakes, you learn from them. :D

Gibson EDS-1275
Brought it at a bargain price from eBay......owned it for 3 weeks and that was including the 1 week I had it on eBay myself. What an utter total piece of shitee!
Got Bob Johnson of Legra to build me my doubleneck which is testament as to how damn good a doubleneck can be if it's built properly by a decent luthier.

i've got the same problem with ultra-thin necks... maybe it's the way i wrap my hand around the neck instead of just pressing slightly with the last articulation of I finger... it's just not my stuff. i'm not a shredder and never will be... floating bridges are the biggest problem of all... many years ago i thought they were cool (even if i took off the bar everytime), but then discovered quite soon that something you just don't use isn't worth the pain of restringing, tuning and sometimes just getting a plain sound when doing fast rhythms... later i found that FR and similar bridges kill the sustain too and force my right hand in unnatural positions, so i tend to run away when i see them! i still have got an ibanez with an edge pro or what they did install back in 1997, but i got it locked and changed the locking nut with a normal one... it took a bit of luthier work but now it's definitely better!
recently i bought another ibanez S but the new bridge is really another world... restringing is still a pain in the arse but it's very comfortable to play.

I think everyone is like that with someone new. The perception that something bought is obviously what they want so see everything of it to be good.. and slowly realise it isn't, lol..

Ah yes, the dreaded honeymoon period where you fall into a deep state of denial and then it suddenly hits you that it's an absolute waste of money and it's too late to return it to the shop.

I actually noticed I said someone, but I meant something. But reading that I think I'll keep it as it is, lol

Exactly; I like my fretboards to be a bit curved. But the tremolo was just... never really used.

Digitech RP500. Just couldn't get on with it.

Vintage®VHE100Series in blue, as it happens. awful! bridge was just too far forward to get the intonation right, and the paintwork on the neck protruded beyond the fretboard and cut my fingers to ribbons. sorted that with wet and dry, but the bridge problem was terminal. sold it pretty quick!

Just for my curious mind, what was so bad about the competition? I have 2 Splawn and love them more than my family, but I guess tone is very much a personal thing.
For me my worst buy was the ENGL Powerball, never got a noise out of it that I liked and it was always lost in the live mix no matter what I did with it. :?
