Title: Pickups for PRS SE Singlecut
Post by: 99_not_out on December 16, 2008, 11:06:49 PM
Hi all,

I am going to finally get round to getting some BKPs for my PRS SE Singlecut, which is lovely as stock, but I recently bought nice little valve amp and my Warpig loaded SG now sounds about twice as good as it did through my old SS modelling amp ... so the PRS requires TLC to keep up!

Want the PRS to be in between metal (covered most admirably by the Warpigged SG) and twang (covered by my probably-also-to-be-BKP'd Baja Tele).

After something for good cleans, blues up to hard rock. I play a bit of everything really, although metal is already covered as I say  Would like it to be warm (tonally) but balanced, so not biased to highs or lows.

The Mule is perhaps the obvious choice, but the Emerald also sounds tempting. Am looking to replace the neck and bridge ... will mainly play AC/DC on this guitar, with some blues, cleans and harder stuff up to RATM thrown in :)

Does anyone out there have Emeralds in a similar guitar, and should I just go with the Mules?

Rock on 8)

I'd be tempted to go AIV Stormy Mondays......

Intersting, I am actually very tempted by the SM, I like the idea of them for some reason ... maybe the name :)
But have always been worried they might be a little too low gain for me. Maybe thats not a huge problem though ... does anyone out there know how the SM output compares (roughly) to the pickups on a Baja Tele? I get nice growl off the amp with the Tele plugged straight in already.

If only they were called "Stormy Maydays" t'would be a definite purchase! :)
Hmmm choices choices ...

I've got a set of Holy Divers in an SE Singlecut, but I have a feeling they'd be a little over the top for what you're after. I do remember though that Hunter has a VHII set in his, which he recommended to me when I was searching. Given the VHII is apparently quite a warm sounding pickup, might be worth a look. I'm sure Hunter's done a fair few clips too. With all that said, ya can't go far wrong with Mules, they're ace pickups!

The holy divers have always been tempting for me actually ... but I was always worried they might be a bit too dark for me in the PRS. Considered the VHII too but perhaps a bit too modern sounding for what I'm after. Hunter's clips are superb though aren't they :)

Thinking Mules or AIV Stormy Mondays now ... with a leaning towards the SM as they are perhaps a bit more balanced? (if I have done my research properly ...)

Am still interested in any feedback from Emerald owners though, reading a few posts in here about them they sound like good balanced vintage pups but a bit hotter.

Basically I need more guitars for all this stuff!
