I was learning some fear factory chugg patterns and my palm muted upstrokes sound no where near as good as my downstrokes, it's really annoying me, it seems the upstroke scratches a tiny bit more of the string, I've found making the pick more parallel to the string improves the tone but that means changing my technique and makes it harder to play
I've also found palm muting closer to the bridge improves my tone, more bassy, but then if I go into shreddy sweepy mode my playing isn't as tight since it doesn't fully mute the strings I'm not using so well
why can't it all just sound good and work!!!!!!! ARRR
anyone else over analysis their playing and have problems like this?

Upstrokes never sound as good as downstrokes imo, even when Dino does them :p

for some reason today the upstroke difference isn't bothering me
speaking of dino, my mate got a "you fat bar-steward" chant going at a fear factory gig years ago

Yeah, I am pretty annoyed at guitar at the moment.
Just wrote a killer riff, although, I thought it sounded familiar.
Lightning Strikes - Ozzy.

Nah my 'style' is ridiculously sloppy to the point where I don't actually really play the guitar. I just like the noises :)

Nah way, I'm falling in love with guitar over and over again latley :)
-
just double your speed and play it all downstrokes ... like Hetfield does :O)
-
I just get frustrated with playing the same stuff all the time :x

1. You find your weakness, and you punch it in the face repeatedly till it craws back into its little corner.
2. Now some other technique is your weakness, so you mutilate that in the face until baby jesus cries.
3. Rince , repeat, until you're awesome at guitar
4.???
5. profit
That's what I do, I'm on 2 right now. :(
Oh and FYI, to get to 5, you have to have no weakness.
