just put a Cold Sweat in my Les Paul and am SERIOUSLY digging the tone - never thought I'd like a passive ceramic pickup so much. it's fat through the mids, chunky in the bass and the treble isn't thin or sharp. this one's a keeper!!!
been playing it through a 2210 model JCM800 I'm modding and it sounds SCARY PDT_003

dammit, don't say stuff like that, now I almost have to take Eric's advice on getting them! 8)
What kind of music do they fit into, so to speak?
-
they wouldn't be my first choice for classic rock like Zep, AC/DC etc..., but Thin Lizzy onwards would be about right (i.e. late 70s rock rather than early 70s).
-
nice, man!
I love it for early Dio and late 80's Ozzy
it's wonderful for old Metallica, Pantera and raw thrash metal like Exodus, The Haunted and Sylosis
balanced bass and mids and a ton of crunch
-
Not helping us... really not... Does anybody want to buy my kidney?
-
Great aren't they? I'm loving mine too :D
-
I really like the CS I have in my ash 'bitsa' Strat. Great bite and crunch to it :D
-
yep, this CS is THE SHE-IT, takes me back to the late 80s at school listening to all those great metal bands. Been cranking out some Motley Crue riffs this afternoon, it's that kinda sound.
think I'm gonna have to get a CS neck too

The neck is, possibly, even nicer than the bridge. And they make a great team.
-
Is it just me or has everyone just realised the CS is a great set? It seems like everyone is fitting them and they are getting a lot of love right now.
(No exception here, Sue fitted the CS set to her SG about 3 months ago, and now you need a crowbar to get it out of her hands)
-
We go through phases of people having the same pickup. Mules were crazy a couple of years ago, as were SGs with RRs and SMs.
We do the same with amps too!

True. I agree with Dave, but also what seems to be happening at the moment is that several of us more vintage-minded older duffers have discovered that the CS set isn't just for shredders (much as puppies aren't just for Christmas).
We'll all be playing overwound C-Pigs and Sinners this time next year. Or maybe not.
-
I haven't played much thru the amp, but the Piledriver sound a beast... I think I can play Motörhead perhaps something even heavier... But I think it will do very well some vintage tones...
It's just my first tube amp and I don't know exactly how to get tones from it yet

It's funny how different pickups are having all their time of being in fashion on this forum. If someone would make the effort, he could surely map out a history of BKP hype phases for each pickup sold by tim. So recently the CS is the hype, let's see who's next :O)
-
lol
I've noted this too
there was a time where nobody had interest in the holy diver, painkiller and cold sweat bridge

Lets try to big up the Abraxas bridge and the Sultans!

Mules are still my favourite :D Just got to crank my laney a bit with the Muled Epi and forgot how good they sound through it. I think the pig 90 is whats causing my fizz though :( The low input helps a bit but its not quite right somehow.. maybe its the 10s? Epi has 11s :)

11 on everything

I want to try the Abraxas at some point but this Cold Sweat is going nowhere at the minute.
My Mule set ain't going anywhere - they're boxed away for a rainy day, or until I get bored of the Cold Sweat and want a change.
-
I really like the Abraxas set I have in my CU22.
I've seen the neck pickup get some attention, but nothign really for the bridge. It's quite a versatile set of pickups! :)
-
Urgh, I've been lusting for an Abraxas set lately. I just need another guitar to put them in

Yeah, the CS neck has long been very popular, but only recently has the bridge model started getting some attention. I have to admit I'm one of the doubters (those comparisons with the Duncan Custom really bother me - I hated the SH5) but I'll probably take the plunge soon.
lol

IIRC Philking was the first on this forum to get one of the "new spec" Alnico HDs, TO (or D'n'L as he is now known ;)) borrowed it & recorded a youtube clip, but I was probably the first on this forum to really rave about the HD. Felt like I fought a lone battle for a while until the Holy Diver got the popularity it deserves...
let's see who's next :O)
Lets try to big up ... the Sultans!
I'm ahead of that trend too - Sultans were my first BKPs :)

Yeah, and as far as I know you and Phil are the only people (on the forum, at least) who've got them. Get that sales pitch going!
