Title: I need help with a special AB-box
Post by: palbjorno on October 02, 2005, 03:00:12 PM
Hello. I am a new member to this forum, but I still hope you can help me. I need to find an ab that switches to lines and has a tuner out. I need to switch an acoustic going to a PA, and an electric going to effects/amp to one tuner. I can wire it myself if I only know how to do it (I think)...

If you can use a soldering iron and are up for building it yourself, all the parts you need are at http://www.smallbearelec.com

theres a site somewhere on this page that has instructions for building something like what you're after, http://www.shredaholic.com/effects.html (Geofex I think?? not sure...)

Hmm. I looked but I didn't find it... Probably just overlooked it. It's sunday, after all
I'll check again later. If anybody has any other ideas, feel free to chime in :D

You need two AB boxes, and a splitter Y cable from the B out of both to go to your tuner. I've got a feeling you could get ground loop trouble though!

I'll se if there's a link anywhere.

Oh...welcome! :P

Hi, I have designed it for you.  If you like I can email the design to you in a word doc.

It's one box with 2 DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) foot switches in.  Having 2 inputs and 3 outputs.  It's only 6 components including the box, all can be bought from Maplin for about £15-£20 total. I am orginally an Electronic Engineer by trade, this is very simple to design.  You could not use 2 AB boxes, unless the tuner has 2 inputs.

I have emailed the design to you.  Looks complicated, but it's pretty simple really.  The biggest job will be drilling the box.

If you want LEDs I can add that, but you will need Triple Pole Double Throw switches instead, and a battery inside.

Thanks, man :D  LEDs would be nice, especially for my friend, but no need to hurry. I will try to build this first.

Let me know when you have the AB box built and working.  Then I will send you the next design.

Good luck with it.

Will do. I'm pretty busy at the moment, but I should have it done in a couple of weeks. And again, thanks. This forum is great.
