Oh guys,
I just wired my rig like this: Axe FX into the poweramp in of the Bogner Shiva. Man, what a sound!
Crisp and 3D and warm and defined, I got that massive tone but all programmeable all the way from ultra clean to recto burnout, really this preamp/amp combo seems like the best of both worlds.
Why have I been using SS for such a long time without even trying this again?
So. Guess I am back infected with the tube bug and will have a 1000W Carvin PowerAmp for sale soon ... means also back to carrying a head back and forth :O(
Am I ever gonna change, meaning stick to one rig for longer?

No! Perhaps if you stop entering inthernet and music stores

Getting new gear is part of the fun of being a guitarist.
I know what works for me in a gigging situation and so stick with that. For home use, I build various amps/pedals for shites and giggles.

would be curious to know exactly what that is? the modded superbass?

180W tube? Goodness.... :O)
Actually I am becoming friendly with the idea of the head. Looks nice with the matching cab and if shite hits the fan I have a 2 channel plus boost backup amp too.
Well, let's see how things fall into place.
If a tube power amp, I was more thinking about the 1U Marshall or Mesa ones, weight wise ...

AxeFX and a Shiva! Happy days! :D :D

For the last couple of years it was an amp I built with an AC30 top-boost preamp running into a pair of 6V6s, fantastic little amp. At the minute it's been hijacked as a 'test' amp for trying ideas out. Right now it's got a hotrodded JCM800 preamp and a switch to take the output down to 1w using an ECC82 as an output tube.
The Superbass modded to '67 plexi specs recently went to a gent in Germany who hasn't stopped raving about how good it sounds. Got to admit, it was a special amp but a bit on the loud side for most practical needs.

I think it's 98watts, switchable down to 60watts or so

It' only 2 rack spaces :)

Hmm, think I'd go for the 2502 instead. EL34s and a more useable output. 90+ W per channel is a bit insane really. I'd love to buy a 1501 if it existed. I don't need stereo really. I would IMMEDIATELY buy a rack unit that packs the Shiva poweramp in a handy package.
