Post by: Spitfire on December 25, 2008, 10:27:16 PM
does anyone know what the differences between these are?

the MQ, Manhattan, MQ Pig90.. and any others i know not of..

im thinking i might try P90s in my 3 Hum SG... im not happy with how my humbuckers are in it, but im not really sure what the difference between the options is.

Cheers.
Dave.

Well the Pig 90 is a beast at 21k, sounds great for stoner rock/metal :) I dont know what magnet or anything, but its good. The MQ neck I have is much lower gain and sounds a lot clearer. I've been thinking about going down to a MQ bridge instead of the pig 90 but cant really be arsed

I think Tim can do ceramic magnets in Pig 90s to tighten them up a bit.

Tom explained the Pig90.

The MQ is a regular P90 wound to about 8K. You can have your choise of magnets but the best, IMO, is AV for the bridge combined with an AIV magnet in the neck.

The Manhattan is wound a bit cooler, I believe and has an AIII magnet. It's aimed at the jazz players.

its a lot more versatile than just jazz though - one of the most usable neck pickups i have owned.  clarity, warmth and sparkle ....and also takes a bit of gain quite nicely

Tim has wound me up a set of MQs that are hottened up to 10k and they sound brilliant, though I've not compared them directly to a standard wound set.
