Title: The hot coil of a humbucker?
Post by: motormouth on April 21, 2005, 08:58:22 AM
 Has anyone ever heard about the hot coil of the humbucker, being that one is hotter that the other(Primary),and by flipping the pickup you can get different results, hottest closest to the bridge gets thines and bit more gain, flipped, hottest farthest from the bridge gets a bit more low end>which is which for a warpig,if this is true?

This only applies if a pickup has asymmetrically wound coils like a Mule-in this instance the screw coil is wound slightly hotter than the slug to simulate the unevenly wound coils of the early PAFs. Alot of our designs have offset coils but the Warpig doesn't, it has symmetrically wound coils so it won't matter which way round it's turned.

On the Warpig, yes.
:?: i just wondered what the advantage is to having the piggys that way.im sure you have wound them asymetricallly, how did they sound.I guess,Im wondering why you choose that route,as apossed to the other, and yes, i got the soundclip for the mule, what the fuk!!,it took,10 minutes, and started playing flawless automatically.IM goin to the studio,so i may have some clips of the warpig, this willl be pur first run at copying wavefiles from our board.Summining the Horned one for this!!I really like the lick at 55sec,thru 59,may have to cop that for the warpig clip!!sweet lick there Timm!!

So, what ratio of windings would you use to obtain the best tone for say a PAF style pickup ?? That is for a say vintage sound.
