I'm on the lookout for a PRS McCarty Rosewood, which has a solid rosewood neck, but as they're not made any more (and were a custom order when they were) they're a bit thin on the ground here in the UK. There are two on eBay, way overpriced at £2300, and I know of one other around the same money. The other PRS option is the Modern Eagle, but they are £3500+.
I really want to try a rosewood neck guitar, so does anyone know of any other options out there around the £1500 mark???
-
I've given up trying to find a guitar with a rosewood neck as every bloody god damn tosser has got 'rosewood neck' written down when they mean fingerboard or fretboard.
Yees, I expressed some annoyance at the world today.

Warmoth?

Warmoth?
Is the only one in that price range that I know, also luthiers, but probably will coast more... Anyway, usually just high end companies makes solid rosewood necks...
-
how fast do you need it ;)
actually i dont have anymore rosewood neck blanks in but i still have macasser ebony. it doesnt take much more work than a normal neck wood but finding suitable material can be difficult - especially if you want a one piece with angled back headstock like the PRS's.... very wastefull!!
i prefer doing the negative fender necks - rosewood with maple skunk stripe
-
Didn't some of the old Eggle guitars have solid rosewood necks?
-
The Fender custom shop Rosewood Tele or the Fender Japan reissue?

There are some limited Music Man Axis around with Rosewood necks.
E.g.: http://www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/AXISRW.htm
Looks very nice. But I would look out for an Axis Sport with hard tail or the classic tremolo, as I already have an FR Axis (which is very nice btw).
Here is one with classic trem:

Those look cool, but it's a bit odd that they seem to have gone for a separate rosewood neck and fingerboard.
Especially since their maple necks are made by cutting the fingerboard off one piece of maple, fitting the truss rod then sticking the original fingerboard back on so the grain still matches.

I think Suhr do a rosewood neck?
Edit: they did for the Reb Beach model. Very pricey though and I don't think suhr build them anymore.

Paul Reed Smith Modern Eagle + Modern Eagle II>my favorites (on my wishlist!)

how fast do you need it ;)
Ha ha! Thanks Wez, but it's something I want to try to see if I like it. I don't think a custom build is the way to go for this!

Me too, which is why I'm looking out for a McCarty Rosewood as a cheaper alternative ;)
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, but it looks like I'll just have to hang out for a McCarty to come up for sale. I've put some feelers out, so we'll see what happens......

i know fella, but it doesnt mean i wont keep trying!!! ;)
in all seriousness it may be worth getting a warmoth neck to try it out - have you got a spare strat or tele that isnt being used much. the indian rosewood ones are a decent price - brazilian rosewood ones are a sillly price
http://warmoth.com/showcase/sc_guitar_necks.cfm?type=guitar&menuItem=1&neckWood_filter=20,21,22,23,64,67
cheaper than a new PRS
-
I've got an old Squier - not sure if those necks would fit....
-
get a tele one for that avatar guitar ;)
-
An advert at one of your favourite stores not sure what price they will stock them at :-

Also Brazilian Rosewood can't be shipped internationally by warmoth...

There is one on Ebay at the moment at £1500.00 but I expect it will go up near the close, no pics of the neck though.

Cheers. It's a a McCarty I'm after, and the US import prices now make it quite expensive :(
I reckon a UK one should be around the £1800 mark...

http://www.melanconguitars.com/necks.shtml
I think Brad Whitford plays a melanacon with a solid rosewood neck.
I think they have a dealer in Warrington.
They do a really nice Tele style guitar.
if I remember my research before getting my custom build, I'm sure there are some old Tom Anderson guitars floating about with a rosewood neck and also Nik Huber guitars in Germany do some.
-
Not sure thats possible for £1500 unless you can find second hand which are pretty rare. I was looking at rosewood necks a while back on PRS custom 24's and they were slightly more then standard ones @£2k. McCartny's are more expensive so they'll be £1.8k second hand. PEACH guitars had some a few months back. Might be worth asking them as they get nice PRS in all the time.
-
Dude, I just found your guitar!

ah me stupid, that one had been posted before
-
Cheers Hunter! That works out at around £2000 with all taxes and shipping, plus I can't try before I buy. :(
I'm hanging on for a UK one around £1800....

I don't want to put a price on anyone's work for them, but I dare say Feline or Wez-V would be able to knock something up in that price range AND you'd get it built to your own spec.
EDIT: ignore this, it pays to read the entire thread first

Thanks anyway matey!
