Title: 2x12 Speaker combinations
Post by: Elliot on December 30, 2008, 12:26:54 PM
I have a 2x12 and 1 each of the following:

G12H30
G12T75
G12H100
CL80

What combination should I put together - I was thinking G12H30 and G12T75 to get a good tonal range.

PS don't say buy a V30 - I aint got any money  :D

H30 and something else.

If you can't afford the V30, get a Eminence Governor. It's better anyway.

There's only one way to find out, try every combination and then decide! :?

I've got 2 x Scumback H75's (G12H-30 clones) and 2 x G12H-100's in my 4x12, and that is the best combination of speakers that I have ever tried, and I've been through quite a few.

But the real answer has already been stated - in that you'll need to try out a few combinations to find out what YOU like.

I'd probably choose the CL80 & G12H30, assuming that a 60 watt cab was enough for whatever I was going to plug into it.  If not, then CL80 & H100 (although I've no experience of the H100, I find it hard to believe I'd like it less than the G12T75... :))

FWIW, I have 2x CL80 & 2x K100 in my 4x12" & couldn't be happier.

A G12H with a G12M is a good combination.

also a G12H with a Vintage 30.

IMHO the Heritage series G12H & G12M are better sounding ones.

Thanks, except as I said I'm not buying new speaker and none of your recommendations are from in the original selection.  If I had the money i'd get an Eminence Texas Heat and a Swamp Thang as I personally prefer the Eminence Patriot series sound to Celestions, but as I said no cash, so recommending other Celestions speakers isn't particularly helpful to me.

I think the CL80 is too near to the G12H30 but i'll give it a try - I tried the G12H100 and CL80 combo and it didn't work at all.

I'm a big fan of the G12H-30, it really will do almost anything.  However, from the selection you have, I'd go with the CL80 since it's got a big, chunky low end and lots of phat mids.  To go with it I'd use the G12T-75 since it's got less bass and more scooped mids, but does have alot of 'cut' in the high-mids and treble.

Plus, you'd have a 150w 2x12 cab with those two together - partnering any of the others with a G12H-30 only gives you a 60w cab.
