I'm looking for great saxophone solo's. I already got Jungleland by Bruce Springsteen, Planet of New Orleans by Dire Straits, Turn the Page by Bob Seger, Who Can it Be Now? by Men at Work, Murder Inc. by the Boss, Money by Pink Floyd, Time Passages by Al Stewart.
-
I like the sax solo in "Close To Me" (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3hdytcAUjI") by the Cure. I was about to suggest Morphine, but most of their tracks are sax-heavy without having a "solo" as such.

+1 on the Springsteen but Jungleland surely has to be Clarence's greatest sax solo:

Sax solo starts at 4:00 and goes on until 6:13 - it's awesome. Apparently Springsteen arranged the parts himself and Clemons didn't get to hear the finished product until after it had all been spliced back together. It is a great piece of music though.

I love Michael Breckers playing on "Your Latest Trick" on Brothers In Arms" - the most natural and fluent plating ever.

BLOCKHEADS!!
Hit me With Your Rhythm Stick
Reasons to be Cheerful
etc.

Nightboat To Cairo and One Step Beyond by Madness.

here's another classic sax part... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bQtlrBziyzI

I'm not really a sax fan, but this is a great song:

Heard one in the car today on Essex FM - the Madness version if "It Must Be Love". The sax in that is awesome.
Mark.

I do have this song too. I like it, but I like Planet of New Orleans better.

I like it, good one.

Can't beat a good sax solo, there's something about them that's just right.

That's the beauty of music i guess. I absolutely hate the way the saxophone sounds as an instrument no matter how good the player/playing is. :D
-
I think the sax solo in the Chick Corea Elektric Band song Free Step is awesome. Can't find a video of it though. :( Sorry.
-
As a ( brief ) essay in understated taste, tone - and atmosphere , check out the sax intro ( and subsequent fills ) on the track 'Small Change' from the Tom Waits album of the same name.
Sublime... 8)

+ 1 I used to play reasons to be cheeful sax solo on the guitar, great stuff

May not be what you're after, but John Zorn has some amazing avant-garde solo alto work, eg, The Classic Guide to Strategy, the Fire Book.
-
My absolute favourite sax solo is from "will you" by Hazel O'Connor. It's from breaking glass. PLayed by Wesley McGoogan AFAIK. Beautiful solo, note choice, phrasing, everything is just perfect IMO.

I'm really pleased you liked that, but the album version is much better , same player - but tighter and better structured. The delicious thing is that the Sax is so close miked - that you can even hear the reed clicking open and shut.
The only danger of listening to the uber cool 'Small Change ' era Tom Waits on your P.C. - is the risk of permafrost on the keyboard... 8)
That sax intro is Aural sex ..

Nice one Johnny , :)
I think listening to Tom Waits in a state of dis-repair and / or moral decline is the 'standard' way to first get introduced to his work. :)

rONNIE rOSS..."Walk on the Wild Side"-Lou Reed...could be one of those youtube links, so If I posted in error, my apologies-this is classic, IMo
...seems like another cool one is "Cool Change", by Little River BAnd....(footnote:I have been drinkin' heavily...I may be wayyy off on these!!)

Yes, the sax in " Walk On The Wild Side" - is another great example of playing to fit the song perfectly.
Another I like from the more 'mainstream' use of the sax, is the way this short sax solo follows the guitar nicely at about 1:41 onwards:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Wu_DCV84TiU
The obvious gems are the Pink Floyd ( Dick Parry ? ) tunes, where the sax 'melts' off the end of the vocals. The Pink Floyd albums 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'Wish You Where Here are also good examples of sax interaction. :)
-
Junior Walker's solo on "Urgent" by Foreigner is the best ever for my money. That deep growl followed by the
highest scream blows me away.

Yeah, like in Us and Them, Dogs of War- amazing, and a couple others I can't think of right now

INXS - never tear us apart (i think).... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXwXfc7ajuI about 2mins 20 secs.

Its not so much solos but there is some good sax work on Courtney Pines album "resistance"
-
Don't know many sax solos but I like the solo in Brown Sugar.
-
Pink Floyd ones have already been mentioned, but another one (for the heavier catagory) is Dream Theater - Another Day
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=SmzfEbW7NJw&feature=channel_page
Also has an epic guitar solo

Try to find Maxine by Raf Ravesncroft (he was the sax player on Baker Street, on Pink Floyd's Final Cut, and many many other 70's and 80's releases).
