Title: total loop pedal noob
Post by: CaptainDesslock on January 03, 2009, 11:38:24 PM
Hey all,

Was considering getting a loop pedal after watching some KT Tunstall:

but i'm a looper noob, anyone got any suggestions?

So I'm guessing you just layer one loop on top of the other but is it ever possible to turn off one of the loops after its started? Like i said serious noob so any advice appreciated.

thanks

the headrush is one of the more simple loopers out there,

the most common loopers are the boss and digitech ones
Boss RC-20XL - i suggest this one
Digitech Jamman
Boss RC-2

I've seen quite a few people use the Line 6 gear with success for that kinda stuff. Never really tried it out myself...

I own a BOSS RC-20; it's great sounding and very easy to use.

I recently bought a Line 6 looper. I returned it after about an hours worth of use. It was just trying to be too much - the sounds were too digital as well (I know it's a digital system but they could have tried making it sound less so)

No idea but i love hearing a good use of a looper pedal. Check out Joseph Arthur (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Letfvx_VBvo)

I have a headrush and it is an excellent pedal.  I use the looper and delay, but not the Tape Echo, mainly because it's harder to use.  The looper is very easy to use and intuitive and you get about 20 seconds which is good for live use but I do run out of time at home trying to build up soundscapes etc, or longer jazz progressions.
You can't remove the last loop you have done but you can remove all of the loops back to the original which is good enough for me although if you make a mistake on loop 4, you do have to start back at loop 2.
You can't save your loops BTW or use delay into loop, the delay and looper are different functions.

Some of the other units have advantages in that you can save your loops or import your own drum loops etc like the boss one but for simple live looping the Headrush is fine.  So it really depends on what you want for your pedal,
I'm tempted to get a boss also for home use and to use the HR as a delay into the looper.

Steve Lukather uses one to great effect here. I really want one to use with my midi guitar!

just outta curiosity is it standard for most loop pedals to be able to cut back to the original? It just seems like a real nice function, I was thinking of the boss RC-2 cause its relatively cheap and small.
