Just a thought...
I am always on ebay looking at whats around and have started wondering about fender amps.
Do humbuckers sound nice through a fender amp e.g. a les paul classic through a hot rod deluxe?
I don't think I have ever heard this combination, it always seems to be fender through fender with a beautiful creamy clean and a raspy garage rock overdrive.
For some reason I imagine a humbucker guitar would sound too fat with a fender amp.
Is this a correct assumption?
I am sure there are lots of views on this, so lets hear em!

Try this one for a rough idea

A lot of guys I know consider the Gibson guitar/Fender amp combination as perfect.Of course, like all things, it is a matter of personal taste but I do think it is a great sound-a Les Paul through a Bassman or Twin-very nice indeed.

A Marshall JTM45 is essentially a Fender Bassman, and Clapton didn't do too bad with that setup in the Bluesbreakers? Also, as all Marshalls are basically derivatives of the Fender Bassman, a Gibson/Fender combination is close to a Gibson/Marshall combination. I think that works OK, don't you ;)
Lots of folk use Gibson / Fender combinations:
Gibson Les Paul Standard and Fender Deluxe = Billy Gibbons
Gibson ES335 and Fender Princeton Reverb = Larry Carlton
Gibson Les Paul Custom and Fender Twin = Keith Richards
Gibson ES355 and Fender Dual Showman Reverb = Chuck Berry
Gibson Les Paul Special DC and Fender Deluxe clone = Twinfan ;)
The list goes on.......

When I was choosing an amp back in October (with my Crawler loaded PRS style guitar) I decided to try a hot-rod deluxe amp. Altough it wasn't bad, it just didn't really deliver what I wanted when playing rock riffs with distortion. However, it sounded incredibly immense though when I played clean and split my humbuckers to single coil!

I kinw it's a modelling amp, but I play with HB's through my Valavetronix mainly on the older Fender settings (and Vox settings)
-
A Hot Rod Deluxe will sound good with a Les Paul but you need a good pedal for overdrive.
Try some Fenders like the Blues Deluxe, Bassman (or similar) and blackface amps. Plug your Les Paul into a Deluxe Reverb Reissue and crank it!

Or you could look at the Fender Strat/Marshall combinations:
Fender Strat and Marshall Super Lead Plexi = Jimi Hendrix
Fender Strat/Tele and Marshall Major/MArshall Silver Jubille = John Frusciante
and many more that I can't think of at the mo!

A guy at my local jam has a REALLY old Fender amp - its something stupid like 15 watts. I used my Explorer through it once and cranked, was a brown pant moment as it sounded so good, I soiled myself (although that may have been that 9th pint of Export...)

Bassman mmmmm, also love the supersonic(has bassman..and vibrolux circuit in it I think), deville..similar again to bassman..and the prosonic...which is just mad and has a mesa type gain
-
Like i said in another thread. I'd give one of my testicles for a bassman. And i love humbuckers and singles alike. One day i'll have one.
-
Here you go - Les Paul Classic (with Rebel Yells) through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

Gibson through Fender ( or a nice clean Laney LH50R ) - is my drug of choice.
-
Depends on the Fender model I guess. Bassmans sound tasty - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7IcHnR581oc
I want to have a go on one :)

Why not the ceriatone 5F6-A builds?

I'm seriously considering them
-
better built than the new re issue I would think

A lesser known ( but great ) example of Gibson through a clean Fender. There are two amps on stage - and only one a blackface Twin (?) - but the tone is what I always think of as "Gibson through Fender".

Excellent ! I have a Fender Twin that sounds like a 'kitty hawk' ... ( does this add value ? ). :)

Sounds about right, but as much as I would love to get my hands on a Dumble - $25,000 seems a bit beyond my budget. ( If I ever got the cash, I would be knocking on the door of Ceriatone / Martamp for a 'joint venture' clone though ).

+1
i don't know about perfect (depends on what tone i'm after), but i like it a lot. :)
-
Early Ted Nugent had awesome tone with his Gibson Byrdland through a Twin
-
When I was looking for an amp last year I put my LP with Emeralds through a Fender HRDX in a small music shop.
The tones were awesome - both clean and distorted. The only issue with the HRDX that I had is that it's loud as Hell - even at 1 on the master volume and I couldn't get a 'house level' out of it without losing the awesome tone I was talking about.
I ended up getting a Peavey Classic 50 212, which is a different beast altogether.
Now, if you were wanting to use it live, I'd say go for it. It's also known as an amp that accepts pedals well, apparently.
